Neurodegenerative diseases are one of the largest medical challenges of our time. Denali Therapeutics is a biotechnology company dedicated to developing breakthrough therapies for neurodegenerative diseases through our deep commitment to degeneration biology and principles of translational medicine. Denali is founded on the collaboration of leading scientists, industry experts, and investors who share the vision that scientific discovery energetically applied to translational medicine is the key to delivering effective therapies to patients.

We invite you to consider an opportunity with Denali to help achieve our goal of delivering meaningful therapeutics to patients.

The Opportunity

Denali Therapeutics is seeking a motivated laboratory-based Research Scientist to join our Translational Sciences group and support the company’s growing translational biology and biomarker needs. You will help implement biomarker assays for preclinical target engagement studies by working in close collaboration with colleagues in other teams such as In Vivo, Research, Development Sciences, and Clinical Development. You will also contribute towards discovery and development of novel biomarkers for target engagement assessment. You will focus on diseases relevant to lysosomal dysfunction and lysosomal pathways.

  • Work under supervision of Denali senior scientists to conduct biomarker research in a dynamic, highly collaborative, and fast-paced environment.
  • Develop, design, and conduct in vivo and in vitro biomarker assays, including plate-based immunoassays and functional cell-based assays to measure readouts of lysosomal pathways and target engagement in preclinical and clinical biosamples.
  • Coordinate with computational biologists and statisticians to analyze data and report quantitative results.
  • Process human brain and biofluid samples for biomarker analysis including histological and biochemical assays.
  • Create assay controls and reagents for internal and clinical use as needed.
  • Archive, process, track, and test large sets of biosamples from preclinical and clinical studies.
  • Work in collaboration with the automation team to analyze large biosample sets for preclinical and clinical studies.
  • Maintain detailed records of the experimental procedures and data in accordance with Denali policy.
  • Communicate experimental designs, assay validation plans, protocols, and biomarker data to cross-functional teams and collaborators.
  • Stay up-to-date with research on biomarkers in neurodegenerative diseases and immunoassay technologies.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years pharmaceutical/biotech experience in biology, neuroscience, cell biology or immunology

Preferred Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in molecular, biochemical, and cellular techniques including mammalian cell culture, western blotting, qPCR, FACS, tissue sectioning, or plate-based immunoassays. Experience with laboratory automation.
  • Outstanding organizational and communication skills with the ability to work independently in a collaborative, dynamic and fast paced environment.
