District of Columbia International School (DCI) is a public charter school serving over 1600 racially and economically diverse students in grades 6-12 from across the District of Columbia. POSITION SUMMARY: DCI seeks a Director of Communications to develop and guide its communications strategy. As DCI celebrates its 10th year, the Director of Communications will play a critical role in helping tell our story to diverse audiences, both internal and external. This position entails collaboratively designing and implementing a strategic communications plan, which includes overseeing DCI’s communication channels (DCI website, social media, internal/external communications), media relations, ad hoc communications, and branding efforts. This role will report to the Chief of Staff and will work closely with the Executive Director, the DCI senior leadership team, and a wide range of core DCI stakeholders.

Salary Range: $90,000 - $110,000 (Starting salary is determined by education and years of relevant experience).

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications: 

  • A Bachelor's Degree is required, a Master's Degree is preferred.
  • Successful experience required in:
    • Strategic Communications
    • Project Management
    • Broad MARCOMM Technology Tools / Social Media
    • Vendor Management
    • Bilingual in English and Spanish, a plus

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops, manages, and implements an org-wide communications plan that furthers DCI’s priorities and goals and is inclusive of our internal/external stakeholders 
  • Develops a strong marketing and messaging strategy for DCI, engaging stakeholders in the process
  • Creates high-quality materials, both written pieces and visuals, to ensure consistent organizational messaging
  • Standardizes design for all organizational materials including publications, merchandise, website, and outreach materials
  • Serves as the primary media contact for DCI and manages all media logistics, including preparing and disseminating press releases
  • Assists in preparing presentations for internal and external meetings and leads informational sessions for the school
  • Manages DCI’s external info@ inbox 
  • Manages school website, including drafting content, and leading the school’s redesign project
  • Oversees DCI’s social media content across all platforms 
  • Coordinates weekly external and internal communications 
  • Manages the school and internal Google calendars 
  • Coordinates with member schools on annual calendars and recruitment days
  • Co-chairs the external affairs and events committee with the Director of Activities
  • Supports the Chief of Staff with Board-level communications and meetings 
  • Supervises the Family Engagement Liaison
  • Availability to work evening and special events as needed
  • Collaborates with general educators, coordinators, and leadership 
  • Embraces Chinese, French, and Spanish cultures by leading and participating in activities for faculty and students 
  • Other duties as assigned
