Job Title: Freelance Entertainment Writer
Job Type: Freelance
Location: Remote (able to work Pacific Time)
Who We're Looking For:
Digital Trends is seeking several freelance writers with a passion for consumer tech, gadgetry, and entertainment. This can be either a part- or full-time gig, however, we'd like it to become a consistent, long-term working relationship if we're satisfied with your work.
We're currently looking for a competent writer who's willing to contribute to our Entertainment section, specifically our streaming guides and related content. Each week, you will write or update an upwards of 6-8 guides -- less, if you’re working in a part-time capacity -- covering everything from the latest additions to Disney+ to the newest methods for downloading Netflix titles to your phone. If chosen, you will write a range of article types, including tutorials, streaming guides, rumor roundups, and more social-friendly pieces for platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. The ability to research, source, and find the best advice and suggestions for every situation is a must, as is the ability to vet copy when revising an existing piece.
The ideal candidate already has experience writing and fact checking online, consistent time each day to write at least one or two guides (several hours), and the desire to dive right into creating publishable content with minimal training. The ability to turn around airtight copy quickly and reliably while using excellent editorial judgment is crucial, as is a background covering film, television, and the streaming platforms and technology reliant on them. The right candidate is also familiar with key players in the space, including both traditional studios and streaming platforms, as well as a wide range of actors, writers, and directors involved with the industry.
As part of your job, you will also find and secure relevant images, video, and other media to draw readers into your posts and retain them. Your sources will include media from studios, official press releases, stock photography, and more.
Here's how to apply:
Submit the following info:
- Your background, your areas of interest/experience in tech/entertainment, and your availability.
- Resume with relevant tech/entertainment writing or journalism experience.
- Writing samples: Send three published clips of your writing.
- Other relevant links: Add a link to your LinkedIn profile or online portfolio.
In lieu of published clips, you may also choose to write one of the following assignments:
Write up a roundup of the five best thrillers currently streaming on Netflix, or a guide detailing how to download films and TV shows from Hulu.
Use the articles below, if in need of a template.
***Do not apply unless you have experience writing guides or similar content, and can write several hours each weekday. You must know how to fact check, create basic header images for a story, and be self-driven to start new projects.
As an equal opportunity employer, Digital Trends encourages, honors, and values diversity. Our goal is to create a culture of inclusion. We are committed to fostering a positive multigenerational and multicultural workforce by supporting inclusion in all forms, both within our company and across interactions with our audience, clients, and candidates.
