The Role

We're a team of 20 engineers with a CTO and 2 existing Engineering Managers. Our stack is MERN and Python deployed to AWS with Terraform. We're looking for a 3rd EM to enable a new product team and help define the practice of engineering management at Digit.

You have a clear understanding of your 2 main priorities:

  1. Drive results
  2. Build and manage a world class team

You've demonstrated tactical ways to pull the 4 main levers as an Engineering Manager to deliver on these priorities:

  1. Knowing your people (Foundation for Results)
  2. Talking to them about performance (Feedback for Results)
  3. Asking for more from them (Coaching for Results)
  4. Push more down to them (Delegation for Results)

You still enjoy writing code on a semi-regular basis but stay outside the critical path of work by delegating critical projects to your capable engineering team. You'll partner closely with a Product Manager and a Technical Lead while managing direct reports.

There are 3 primary outcomes we're expecting from this role in the next 12 months:
  1. Build 2 new high-performing and diverse product engineering teams from scratch
  2. Manage delivery of features to our customers across 2 new product lines
  3. Define, build and support an engineering management process and culture at Digit

What You Offer Digit

Onboarding Expectations

Within 1 Day, You will:

  • Schedule weekly 1:1s to start getting to know your team on a personal level
  • Become familiar with our product and company culture
  • Grasp what results look like for your team

Within 2 Weeks, You will:

  • Help source new candidates for our hiring pipeline
  • Participate in initial phone screens for candidates
  • Know what motivates each person on your team

Within 2 Months, You will:

  • Contribute improvements to the engineering hiring process
  • Have a trusting relationship with your direct reports
  • Enable progress towards your quarterly OKRs

Within 6 Months, You will:

  • Demonstrably level-up our Engineering Management practice
  • Deliver 2 successful quarters of meeting your OKRs
  • Define career growth tracks for your direct reports
