Design @ Dialpad
Our company mission is to make communications easy, frictionless, unified, and intelligent and our Product Design team delivers on that mission, working cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Marketing, Sales and Service to understand customer needs aligned with the whitespace in the market. We leverage data and research, Design Thinking, iterative testing and Lean UX to frame customer problems and define solutions that no other competitor is offering in the CCaSS and UCaSS space. Not only do we stand out because of our proprietary artificial intelligence engine, but we also happen to have a user experience that is recognized time and again by our customers as they move over from competitive offerings. Now is a fantastic time to be part of our team, as we enter the next phase of building an even more robust offering for our largest clients in need of a product that supports their every need in call centers, sales functions, and communications across their organization.

About this role

We are looking for a Director of Design who will play an integral role on the Design Leadership team, reporting to the Vice President of Design. This person will be impactful in the following areas:

Think deeply about the future of Contact Center as a Service
This is a complex space with many customer types. You’ll immerse yourself in company strategy and guide your teams to better understand our biggest opportunities alongside our passionate team of product managers, data scientists, linguists, machine learning engineers, and customer specialists. You’ll think holistically about analytics, workforce management, and artificial intelligence and lead your teams to craft unified experiences that deliver on unmet needs found through discussions with our customers.

Design for Delight and Quality
You’ll oversee the design of high-quality features and workflows and foster a sense of ownership throughout the process from your team. One of your ongoing missions will be to ensure we’re both designing the right thing and designing it right.

Shape our Strategy
Great strategy happens at all levels within Dialpad. You’ll be entrusted to facilitate the creation of that strategy in ways that are both insightful and inspiring, creating opportunities and possible directions without being overly prescriptive. Most importantly, you’ll work with your cross-functional peers to realize how these strategies actually turn into roadmapped work that’ll see the light of day.

Shape Dialpad through the eyes of our customers
You’ll help your team partner with our researchers, customer success managers, and others to understand the goals of customers in many industries, and use those insights to course correct our assumptions and reframe our possibilities.

Foster a culture of innovation
We’re leaning into iteration and failing fast - anchored on insights and a larger vision. You’ll set the stage for curiosity and  innovation by identifying and evangelizing  practices while  working through ambiguous or lofty goals. You’ll  take an active role with product teams to model  via workshops, coaching or other methods you may have in your toolbox.

Help our design team thrive
The design culture at Dialpad is a living, breathing group effort. You’ll provide thoughtful leadership to your reports and mentorship to the broader team. You’ll partner with the rest of design leadership, tackling when and how to systematize how we work as a group. You’ll teach the soft and hard skills that shape leaders to become the collaborative glue that inspires product management and engineering while also developing their core competencies. You’ll have fun and build a culture of belonging, wellness, diversity, inclusion, and career growth for the design team.

Qualities and Qualifications

  • A team builder with 15+ years of related experience, 7 years of management or supervisory experience, as well as experience hiring top talent.
  • An experienced Design leader and designer by trade who has lead teams of 10+ IC’s, including seasoned Design Leads or managers.
  • Able to communicate a vision - providing direction, mentorship, and inspiration.
  • Mastered to balance the strategic and operational needs of your team—from pitching ideas to negotiating trade-off decisions and coordinating resources
  • A strong collaborator and inspiring communicator that builds trust, is able to influence and bring alignment across the organization.
  • A meticulous problem solver that can make the right calls to prioritize work that drives business impact.
  • Managing a distributed team is not a problem, you may have some experience or are willing to give it a go.
  • Gravitation towards complex problems.
  • Saying “we” more than “I”.
  • An empathic teammate that embraces vulnerability, and makes themselves available for their team and beyond.
  • No hesitation to champion a good idea until it turns into something that works.
  • A bias for action: You are proactive in addressing problems before you or your team and don’t wait for others to start.
  • You have a track record of thoughtful, impactful work you can show us.
  • Ability to effectively manage up, keeping leadership updated and engaged without getting into the weeds upfront.
  • Self-awareness and a growth mindset. Every leader is on their own journey to not just be a better leader, but a better version of themselves. We’d love to participate and help you in that journey.
  • Experience working in SaaS or enterprise software
