Join us in launching a new infrastructure fintech company to build foundational infrastructure for the upcoming paradigm shift to real-time payments. We are seeking a highly motivated Co-Founder & CEO. This person will head the engineering and product team in charge of infrastructure, architecture, and design, and use their technical knowledge to drive the product build.

The Opportunity

Within the next decade, the majority of account-to-account transactions in the US could go through the FedNow Service and the RTP Network. The last shift of this magnitude happened 50 years ago with the introduction of ACH, and the previous one was 100 years ago with the launch of FedWire. Real-time payments are now ubiquitous in many parts of the world, and the US is catching up with the launch of FedNow in 2023.

However, without a significant overhaul of payment infrastructure inside financial institutions, the adoption of real-time rails is set to be painful. Banks are used to batch-processing payments, and routinely shut down systems during evenings and weekends for maintenance and updates. This is incompatible with FedNow requirements: systems must be on 24/7, and payment messages must be acknowledged within seconds of receipt. Banks in other parts of the world faced those same challenges when launching real-time payments, and their response has been to gradually embrace cloud-native architecture and microservices, including rail connectivity infrastructure providers operating under a SaaS model. We expect a similar shift to rails-as-a-service in the US, a large market with room for multiple players, but none or very few currently in the market.

Our newest company is taking the burden of setting up and maintaining connectivity to the RTP Network, the FedNow Service and other rails off of financial institutions. Behind the scenes, the venture will set up sophisticated infrastructure involving a mix of dedicated hardware and cloud environments to connect to various rails. Following SaaS multi-tenant architecture best practices, this connectivity infrastructure will be abstracted and delivered to banks through a simple API.

Join us in taking account-to-account payments to the 21st century. Diagram has significantly de-risked this opportunity by funding the company, lining up potential follow-on investors, validating the problem and our proposed solution through dozens of industry conversations, developing high-level plans for hiring needs and product build, and growing a strong commercial pipeline. This opportunity is ideal for a motivated entrepreneur looking to enhance their chances of success, all while retaining significant founder equity.

Please note: This is not an employee opportunity at Diagram Ventures, but in a new company created through our venture studio model. This company will be independent from Diagram Ventures, and the founding team will receive the majority of the equity in the venture.

Who We’re Looking For

We are assembling a team of entrepreneurs, technologists, and financial services professionals and we are now looking for an accomplished co-founder & CEO to lead a venture providing a cloud-native gateway into US real-time rails: owning the vision, strategy, fundraising, and execution.

As one of the co-founders, you will build and scale a venture with a meaningful mission from the ground up. If you are up for it, you will:

  • Build and lead a high caliber team of “A” player early hires
  • Establish early customer relationships (e.g. financial institutions and fintechs), and create a scalable sales engine over time
  • Provide overall leadership to the organization, working across all aspects and functions of the business (product, marketing, sales, services, tech, finance, etc.)
  • Lead the fundraising efforts in collaboration with the founding team and investors
  • Work closely with the investors/board, communicating regularly

The ideal founder for this venture would bring the following:

  • Track-record of leading a business as a CEO, President, COO, Product Executive, or GM with P&L ownership within an organization
  • Experience in fintech; preferably in payments and/or selling SaaS into US banks
  • Experience taking a business or product from 0 to 1; track record of entrepreneurship
  • Experience raising venture capital

Other highly desirable assets include:

  • Familiarity with real-time payments and ISO20022. Direct experience working with FedLine and/or implementing FedWire, FedACH, RTP, FPS or SEPA is nice to have.
  • Well networked with bank leaders and the bank technology service provider industry
