As a Senior Database Administrator (DBA), you will be responsible for managing a central database of data that is absolutely critical to the operation of the entire environment. You will be expected to adhere to best practices for Google site reliability, DORA, ITIL practices, and data engineering. This position oversees a database that is currently using RDBMS technology and will be going through a modernization to a variety of newer databases and data structures, so you need to have a willingness to learn and apply techniques from old to new.

To qualify for this position, you should have demonstrated experience with Oracle database administration, relational databases, programming using SQL and PL/SQL and expertise performing all of the functions listed below. You should also have experience with Oracle client, .NET and other middleware database connectivity and how to securely manage system connections.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Designing and implementing databases in accordance with end users’ information needs and views.
  • Providing proactive data management support and training to users.
  • Performing tests and evaluations regularly to ensure data security, privacy, and integrity.
  • Monitoring database performance, implementing changes, and applying new patches and versions when required.
  • Maintaining the integrity, security, and availability of database(s).
  • Administering, maintaining, and implementing policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of the database(s).
  • Organizing and formatting data for efficient query and storage process.
  • Establishing and maintaining database user accounts.
  • Performing disaster recovery, performance analysis and tuning, index maintenance.
  • Performing database and software life-cycle activities to ensure the highest level of system performance and availability.
  • Providing server administration with a variety of database products.
  • Supporting data modeling activities by way of prototype database implementation.
  • Coordinating database architecture changes with database engineers.
  • Directing the installation of database management systems, databases, tables, and views.
  • Directing the administration and use of current and emerging database tools, strategies, and technologies.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering, computer science, physical sciences, or mathematics from an accredited university is required. (A Master’s degree will be valued, but is not required.)
  • Ability to provide oversight for all database and software personnel supporting the system.
  • Knowledge and experience in advance maintenance techniques and failover plans.
  • Experience leading complex technical projects.
  • Experience leading a software development team of experienced database administrators/developers.
  • Experience performing research on database and related technologies.
  • Knowledge and experience with Report Development.
  • Proven experience with Veritas NetBackup Administration and system backup scheduling.
  • Experience with systems engineering and process documentation.
  • Experience with identification, evaluation, and integration of third-party systems, tools, and components.
  • Experience defining user and technical requirements for data-intensive applications.
  • Application analysis, design, implementation, and documentation experience.
  • Experience selecting/recommending appropriate software development tools and systems.
  • Experience managing the installation, configuration, and implementation of in-house applications.
  • A firm understanding of DHS, NIST, DISA, and other government and industry accepted information security technology, policy, guidance, and directives, including encryption and certificate exchange.

 

Our estimated salary range for this position is $100,000-$150,000. This presented salary range is not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Offered salary is based on education, experience, geographic location, and possibly contractual requirements as appropriate to the role. *Salary could fall outside of this range.
