POSITION SUMMARY:
The Groundskeeping Department is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the practice facility grounds and parking lot at the Detroit Lions Allen Park Training Facility.
The Groundskeeping Intern will have the opportunity to learn about and assist with the day-to-day operations of the department. The Intern will gain hands on training and experience in field painting, grounds and equipment maintenance, and turf management.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (including, but not limited to):
The Groundskeeping Intern will have daily responsibilities including, without limitation, the following:
- Operate small landscape machinery including lawnmowers and trimmers
- Assist with field painting
- Landscape bed management including pruning, mulching, and weed control
- Basic equipment maintenance
- Assist facilities department with parking lot maintenance and repair
NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Must be motivated, reliable, and able to work independently or as part of a team
- Must be detail oriented with strong organizational skills
- Will adjust work schedule to meet departmental demands
- Will keep appropriate information confidential
- Will accept other responsibilities and duties required by the supervisor consistent with the
objectives and essential functions of this position. Such responsibilities shall be incorporated
into the position description if they are ongoing.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience in fertilizer, pesticide and/or fungicide applications or having an applicator’s license strongly preferred
- Currently enrolled in/recently graduated from a two- or four-year program at the college level in a Turf Management, Agronomy, Landscape, or Horticulture program preferred.
- Candidate must be a team player and have the ability to work effectively and professionally when working independently
- Ability and willingness to learn new equipment and systems
- Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to lift and move equipment.
- Ability to reach, bend, sit and/or stand, climb or balance, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and holidays as needed
- Must successfully pass a background check
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record
