Print Process Engineer

Desktop Metal is revolutionizing all aspects of metal 3D printing. We are presently seeking a talented and self-motivated Software Automation Engineer to join our Studio System Engineering team.  The Studio System consists of three different hardware units, Printer, Debinder, and Sintering Furnace.   Together these three units utilize a robust build process that can create complex metal parts, at a price attainable by any design and manufacturing team. The ideal candidate will have experience in print process development for 3d printing systems. 
  • Develop, test, and implement improvements to part processing in the Studio System
  • Design experiments to test process improvements
  • Work closely with process and materials engineers to execute experiments
  • Design of testing procedures and test fixtures
  • Record and analyze experimental data
  • Work closely with FFF slicer team to request and test new features
Basic Qualifications
  • Deep knowledge of 3d printing processes
  • Prior work with slicers, ideally for FFF based systems
  • Experience in design and execution of testing for process characterization
  • Ability to design quick and effective tests to drive decision making
  • Fundamental understanding of mechanical properties of materials
  • Fundamental understanding of thermodynamics and how it applies to complex systems
  • Works well in a highly collaborative team structure
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency in Google Docs, Sheets (or Microsoft equivalent)
  • BS/ MS in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or equivalent
  • 1 to 5 years previous experience
Preferred Experiences
  • Print process tuning experience with FFF systems
  • Experience in a lab setting
  • Design of experiments
  • Prior work with mechanical testing equipment (Instron, etc)
  • Prior work in metal 3d printing or MIM processing
