Design Within Reach exists to make authentic modern design accessible.

Authentic means that it’s the real thing. We don’t do “inspired by” or “just as good as” or “in the spirit of.” When we were founded in 1998, consumers simply weren’t able to buy the classics at retail. To find them, they had to visit Europe or work with intermediaries. We changed that by making innovative works from iconic designers accessible for the first time, and we’ve continued to provide the best in modern design ever since. Accessible means that it can be seen and touched (taken for a “test drive,” as we like to say) and that it’s in stock. At DWR, we’re passionate about design – past, present and future.

Working in our Stamford, Connecticut, corporate offices

Our headquarters occupies a renovated former lock factory on the edge of a thriving design district. Part of a rapidly reinvigorating area of South Stamford, the building is within walking distance to Metro North commuter railroad and is adjacent to ample new housing and lifestyle amenities. With exposed brick, large windows and modern furnishings, the offices are occupied by the executive team and the supporting departments of Finance, Real Estate, Information Technology, Inventory Management, Marketing and E-Commerce, Merchandising, Product Development, Operations and the Virtual Studio.


Working in a DWR Studio

Serving as community centers for design, our Studios invite constant interaction between the customer, our furniture and our staff. Our Studio proprietors are encouraged to have a sense of ownership about their Studio, and hold in common an entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for design. The people who work in our Studios are all multi–taskers and can often be found working with customers, planning events and building local relationships.

As a part of the Herman Miller Consumer Group, Design Within Reach is helping grow the Herman Miller team. An industry leader in iconic home and office furnishings for more than 100 years, Herman Miller remains committed to innovation. Our store offers a unique mix of new and vintage Herman Miller furniture, lighting and accessories – alongside the work of makers and artisans who share our commitment to purposeful, authentic design and uncompromising quality. Designed as an evolving home environment, the store serves as a haven to welcome customers and represent the Herman Miller brand.

Hay North America is the newest brand to join the Herman Miller Consumer Group. Hay’s proven success as a fast-growing global company and its deep catalog of high-quality, well-designed furniture and accessories makes it a welcome and transformative addition to Herman Miller’s family of brands. Hay extends Herman Miller’s global reach and dramatically expands the company’s offering of furnishings and accessories for the home and for contract and hospitality markets.



Working at the Fulfillment Center

Centrally located in Northern Kentucky, our 315,000-square-foot Fulfillment Center serves the entire United States. To uphold our high shipping standards, employees work at a fast pace, receiving, packing and shipping merchandise; making for a challenging and exhilarating environment.
