The Role

Following the hire of our first Head of Legal earlier this year, we are looking to appoint a junior lawyer to help build Depop’s legal function and support the business on a wide range of legal matters. You will report directly to the Head of Legal.

We are looking for a practical and commercially minded lawyer who is prepared to be hands on and collaborative whilst working to help scale the business in line with our ambitious growth strategy. Success in this role is about being both proactive and reactive - dealing pragmatically with issues as they arise but helping to put in place the processes and systems to put us on firm legal footing in a constantly changing external environment. The role would suit an individual looking for a broad in-house role (where no two days are the same!) in a fast-paced and exciting environment.

You will work closely with all teams in the business and benefit from relationships with key stakeholders and external advisors.

Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing, improving and establishing our legal frameworks and processes, including contract, IP and statutory requirements.
  • Ensuring our marketing, technology and product teams are always operating in a legally compliant way.
  • Preparing and negotiating a wide range of general commercial agreements including NDAs, talent agreements, supplier agreements and IT agreements.
  • Advising and supporting the business on all ad hoc legal matters, including data protection, IP, litigation and employment.
  • Developing and maintaining a template and contracts database to be used across the business.
  • Acting as a key stakeholder with all international teams, particularly in Europe, the US and Australia, to ensure consistency of legal advice across the business as Depop continues to expand.
  • Coordinating the business on legal matters relating to financing, due diligence and other compliance requests.
  • Helping to develop and execute short and long-term strategy for scalable growth of the Legal function and its role at Depop, including building out the Legal team and on-boarding external legal advisors.

Requirements:

  • 1-3 years post qualified experience in a private practice or in-house role.
  • Qualified to practice law in England.
  • Prior commercial, technology and data experience is very desirable, as is experience working with high growth technology businesses, social media platforms or online marketplaces.
  • You will be an ambitious and dedicated individual that is excited about the opportunity to help build a legal function in a fast-paced global business.
  • You will be able to prioritise an ongoing list of tasks with a solutions-driven approach.
  • You will need to be hands on in carrying out legal work.
  • You will be able to make commercial decisions and have the ability to communicate legal advice clearly to the business.
