POSITION DETAILS

We are looking for a passionate, entrepreneurial, high-performing people leader to contribute to shaping our program and operations in Brazil whilst building and leading a high-performing and collaborative team of Delterra colleagues, external staff, and local partners as Program Manager for Brazil.

Responsibilities include :

  • Together with the global leadership team of Delterra, define our strategy and set clear objectives and direction for the Brazil program and team
  • Provide strategic and day-to-day problem solving, leading a collaborative process to prioritise between tradeoffs, manage risks and respond to emergent opportunities
  • Manage and develop collaborations with partner organisations, top public sector officials and funders, building trusted, collaborative relationships to ensure strong ownership and sustained support from key stakeholders
  • Coordinate and set priorities across team members, ensuring collaboration between workstreams (e.g., Behavioural Change, Operations) and steering progress through tracking of key performance metrics
  • Prepare high quality, actionable syntheses of program work to help frame decision-making and for regular meetings with stakeholders, including memos and presentations
  • Oversee business case analysis and recommendations to ensure financial sustainability, including return on investment modelling and sensitivity analysis
  • Codify learnings from the program to ensure replicability and scalability, as well as cross-geography learnings
  • Contribute to organizational and operational growth as a core member of the global leadership team working with our central team to build and drive improvements in systems and processes for our small but fast-growing organisation
  • Oversee the development of a diverse and talented team, coaching team members on a regular basis and supporting to deliver targeted trainings

The Brazil Program Manager will report to the Regional Director for Latin America, have regular interactions with other members of the global leadership team, and contribute towards the overall leadership and direction of the organisation.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Native or professional fluency in Portuguese and English
  • 8+ years’ experience in project management and setting-up / managing a high performing and large diverse team to deliver complex projects with diverse stakeholders, including implementation and transformations
  • Strong track record as an inspirational team leader (managing 10+ people), who fosters a non-hierarchical, high-performing and supportive culture, with extensive experience coaching others to become effective leaders themselves and a passion for improving ways of working
  • Strong track record of building respect and credibility with senior decision makers, such as government officials, corporate executives and major donors
  • Ability to structure and communicate complex information effectively to a highly diverse set of audiences – particularly context, insights, implications for strategy/project delivery, asks and next steps
  • Ability to thrive in “build the plane as you fly it” environments: comfortable managing the ambiguity and risks inherent to innovation; adapting to the situation at hand, helping teams prioritize dynamically based on new information; staying positive and creative in the face of setbacks and driving rapid progress
  • Experience in supporting the development of internal support functions including finance, procurement, legal, people and communications
  • Minimum of a Bachelor Education in Environmental, Public Policy, Development, Economics, Business, and/or relevant fields. Master’s Degree preferred
  • Pluses include:
    • Experience working in social impact and emerging economy contexts, especially building inclusive solutions in partnership with local stakeholders
    • Experience ideally in waste management, or broader related sustainability topics (e.g., circular economy, corporate social responsibility, economic development) and/or related industries (e.g., fast-moving consumer goods, municipal services)
    • Experience in a start-up environment (i.e., resource constrained, fast evolving, flexible)
    • Existing networks in Brazil (or Latin America) in the public sector or circularity space that can be drawn upon to accelerate our growth and impact

 

Further details:

  • This position will be based initially in any location in Brazil, with a strong preference for candidates that are available to move to the site of our first project when we define it; this site will likely be in the state of São Paulo
