The role of PR manager at Deliveroo is an exciting, varied position supporting the communications team with activities that help them to deliver ambitious comms plans. You will have excellent organisational skills and experience working in a fast-paced, creative PR agency or in-house communications team. Knowledge and understanding of the consumer PR and social media industry is key.

On the consumer comms side, you will be responsible for leading small to medium sized campaigns as well as supporting the wider team and agencies to activate and implement larger original, engaging and fun stunts that excite existing customers and potential take-away fans.

Whether that’s creating a weird and wonderful dish exclusive to Deliveroo customers such as the Nutella Chicken Curry to celebrate Nutella Day, reuniting 90s boy band East 17 to make special deliveries to people living in E17 to help launch Pret's Christmas Lunch Sandwich on the app, organising a skydive extreme delivery, or using our data to reveal the real kebab capital of the country, no two days are the same.

This is a fast-paced, high-energy role that requires a lot of creativity and ability to manage multiple projects at one time. 

Roles and responsibilities

Reporting to the Head of Consumer Comms UK, you will: 

  • Devise, manage and take ownership of high-impact PR campaigns for the UK market that deliver high quality coverage in top tier media through stories and stunts that are activated both in-house and by Deliveroo PR agencies 
  • Support on ideation and implementation of a quarterly programme of creative ideas ensuring these are aligned with marketing and business priorities
  • With support from the comms assistant and working closely with local activation teams to meet business objectives, drive launches and activations in UK cities and towns to deliver a constant drumbeat of coverage across the country, looking for new ways to generate coverage in key areas to keep Deliveroo front of mind 
  • Identifying and managing third party relationships and co-activations with key restaurant and grocery PR and comms teams and establishing collaboration opportunities with other brands
  • Proactively sharing newsjacking ideas and activating them to drive positive coverage e.g. our Deliveroo x Itsu ‘Free Sushi for Samantha’ activity 
  • Compiling media materials including press releases, campaign one-pagers, bios, fact sheets, features, opinion pieces, reactive statements etc - ensure all are well written, engaging and on message, to share with senior team members, relevant stakeholders and wider teams for approval
  • Mentoring and helping to develop the comms assistant. Playing a key role in guiding their day to day responsibilities and ensuring they are meeting deadlines, overseeing work and reviewing written materials before it is shared with senior members 
  • Writing briefing documents for internal spokespeople ahead of consumer media engagements, ensuring they are on-message and prepared for potential questions 
  • Closely managing activity budgets and raising and processing POs for suppliers
  • Managing events for internal and external stakeholders such as the Deliveroo Restaurant Awards, attending/coordinating photoshoots and events including broadcast shoots and photography days
  • Fostering strong national, consumer and local press contacts and attending regular media meets (Covid restrictions permitting)

Working with internal stakeholders, you will;

  • Collaborate with brand social to come up with creative and strategy to amplify PR stories and stunts on Deliveroo owned channels
  • Work closely with the UK marketing/rider/restaurant/product/Editions teams to maximise PR opportunities e.g. getting a PR campaign included in CRM (customer emails or in-app) or stocking limited edition new products at Edition sites
  • Align with the wider comms team (corp/PA/stakeholder) and marketing teams on activities and timing of stories, to ensure alignment on plans and focus, providing counsel and supporting on mar-comms campaigns to drive cross-channel awareness
  • Build strong relationships with legal and commercial teams to get releases, ideas and T&Cs signed off

Must haves

  • 4+ years experience in a comms role, liaising with the media directly 
  • Outstanding organisational ability and project management skills with an ability to work autonomously 
  • A self-starter who is comfortable with constant change and unafraid to seek out direction on what to do next and how to accomplish it
  • Ability to identify potential problems and issues to be solved, and propose solutions to them
  • Flawless written English 
  • Strong consumer and national media contacts 
  • Experience in fast-paced environment 
  • Experience of managing junior members of staff 
  • Excellent media relationships 

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience of working in a PR agency on big household brands
  • Experience of managing agencies from an in-house position
  • Experience of working at a start-up or high-growth business 
  • Experience working with regional media with strong local media contacts
  • Experience of developing brand visibility across social media channels and engaging with bloggers and influencers

Location

You will be based in London but could be required to travel for work sometimes both locally and overseas. There is no obligation to work in the Deliveroo office at this time but this will be reviewed over the coming months as Government guidance changes.
