When you first think about Deliveroo, you probably think of getting great food to your house in less than half an hour. Awesome right? But behind the scenes is the real story. This story is one of high growth, huge challenges and an enormous opportunity ahead of us. It began with our founder Will, arriving in London over 5 years ago and finding it almost impossible to order great food, despite the wealth of incredible restaurants in the city. And we’re just getting started
The scale of the opportunity ahead of us is immense. The global food market is valued at £7.7 trillion but only 1% of it is currently online. Contrast that with the digital disruption of countless other industries - from banking and travel to retail and communications - it’s clear that our journey in the food sector has only just begun.
We are already a multi-billion dollar company that is more than doubling in size every year. Deliveroo came top in the FT’s’ list of Europe’s fastest growing 1000 companies in 2018, and we were the first company ever to win Deloitte’s ‘UK Top 50’ two years in a row. We recently completed a major funding round, securing investment for our next stage of growth from investors including Amazon.
Deliveroo in Ireland
Deliveroo launched in Dublin in 2015, followed by launches across Limerick, Cork, Galway, Belfast and Derry. We’ve expanded rapidly and now work with over 800 restaurants, 1,000 riders and thousands of customers across Ireland every day. We have firmly secured the number 2 position in the market and are fast closing the gap on our largest competitor. And we’re not stopping there - we continue to grow rapidly, are expanding our coverage to new areas (e.g. Blanchardstown, Swords, Tallaght), rolling out new products like click & collect and investing in marketing to ensure Deliveroo is top of mind for Irish consumers.
To drive our growth, we’re now investing in our people. Michael Healy joined as General Manager for Ireland in May 2019, having previously been Chief Marketing Officer at a FTSE 250 listed restaurant business and Commercial Director of PaddyPower.com. Michael is keen to strengthen the Irish team by attracting a talented and ambitious Head of Sales to drive the expansion of our restaurant relationships across Ireland.
What about this role?
This senior role will lead the Sales team in Ireland. You will be responsible for defining and implementing a sales strategy to profitability grow our network of restaurant partners across Ireland. You’ll be part of the Irish management team and report directly into the Ireland General Manager.
The job will involve:
- Being a leader in the Irish team, using your skills and experience to impact the entire business and not just your own function
- Owning the rollout of Deliveroo to new markets in Ireland, defining which markets we should enter and in what order, ensuring we utilise the most appropriate business models and are clear on what Sales need to do to deliver a winning customer proposition
- Improve our restaurant coverage in existing markets by effectively identifying and prioritising restaurant partner acquisition targets and activity, ensuring we’re always first to market with new and exciting partners
- Personally recruit the most important and valuable national partners onto our platform
- Optimise our sales process to improve conversion and ensure we prioritise our most valuable opportunities (e.g. broad and varied lead generation techniques, laser like focus on what restaurants we should acquire and where, appropriate restaurant incentives and commercial terms, etc.)
- Manage and motivate the local Sales team to ensure we have appropriate, highly skilled resources, sales strategies, commercial targets and incentives to create clear accountability and deliver strong sales outcome
What do we need you to bring to the table?
- 5+ years experience with sales, food and / or ecommerce experience highly desirable
- Significant commercial and strategic acumen
- Strong people and influencing skills
- Proven track record on managing and motivating teams
- Strong sense of personal accountability and will to win
- Analytical problem solver with the ability to effectively articulate findings
