We are seeking an experienced Director of Engineering who will build, grow, and lead engineers across multiple product teams and platforms. Ideally, this person will be based out of Brisbane. Candidates can also be based remotely in Queensland, NSW or Victoria, Australia.

Day in the Life

  • Lead, motivate, and inspire multiple teams of engineers to deliver high-quality software and be held accountable for their performance
  • Recruit, retain, and develop great engineers who form cohesive teams capable of learning and growing
  • Manage and coach multidisciplinary teams of developers, testers, and technical leads through challenges and career growth
  • Empower your team to achieve a high level of technical productivity and quality by removing roadblocks, addressing conflicts, and operating as its champion
  • Collaborate with peers to creatively solve problems and drive department-wide objectives
  • Partner with product management to balance short and long-term needs for both product and technical roadmaps
  • Promote and instill essential software engineering practices in your team
  • Track, produce, analyze, and action upon key metrics & milestones to ensure quality products are delivered on time
  • Communicate and collaborate with clients, partners, and vendors on technical details
  • Other duties as assigned

Who You Are

  • 5+ years managing engineering teams
  • 10+ years software engineering experience developing web and API applications
  • Experienced at organizing agile software teams to deliver high-quality software

Work Environment & Physical Demands

Degreed is a remote-first company, however our roles are open to in-office or flex work if you live in a city with a physical office location (when it is safe to return to the office). This role has the opportunity to operate 100% virtually from your home office. We primarily collaborate with our US and International colleagues through virtual meetings (Zoom), email, and Slack. In this role, you will be required to operate a laptop computer (PC or Mac available), computer software platforms, and other office productivity machinery as necessary.  Due to the nature of this role, you must be able to remain stationary for extended periods, and must be able to observe and interpret written and/or verbal communication.
