We seek an experienced engineering manager who will build, grow, and lead engineers at Degreed’s “Core Data” team.

The Core Data team is responsible for building the tools and products that empower the product teams to do their best work. You will be responsible for creating a reliable, usable, and user-driven platform.

The goals of the Core Data team are to:

  • Standardize the data access layer across the organization.
  • Make it easy to build best-in-class APIs.
  • Make it easy to hook into an event-driven architecture.
  • Enable teams to monitor and debug data movement across the business.

Some of the Core Data team projects improve our open-source JSON:API framework and build the tools to publish and subscribe to events easily.

Day in the Life

  • Develop engineers on the team, helping them advance in their careers.
  • Recruit, retain, and develop great engineers who form a cohesive team capable of learning and growing.
  • Be actively involved in strategic direction and decisions that impact all of Degreed.
  • Ensure your team’s success by removing roadblocks, addressing conflicts, and operating as its champion.
  • Collaborate with peers to creatively solve problems and drive department-wide objectives.
  • Promote and instill essential software engineering practices in your team.
  • Communicate and collaborate with engineers on technical details.

Who You Are

  • 2+ years managing engineering teams.
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience developing APIs.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

Degreed is a remote-first company, however our roles are open to in-office or flex work if you live in a city with a physical office location (when it is safe to return to the office). This role has the opportunity to operate 100% virtually from your home office. We primarily collaborate with our US and International colleagues through virtual meetings (Zoom), email, and Slack. In this role, you will be required to operate a laptop computer (PC or Mac available), computer software platforms, and other office productivity machinery as necessary.  Due to the nature of this role, you must be able to remain stationary for extended periods, and must be able to observe and interpret written and/or verbal communication.
