At Defcon AI, the Senior Software Engineer for Tool Development will be a technical powerhouse, responsible for driving the creation of innovative software tools that streamline operations and boost productivity. This role combines deep programming expertise with an understanding of real-world application needs.

A Day in the Life at DEFCON:

Defcon is a young firm, and this is a new role. The selected candidate must be comfortable with change and flexible enough to work on multiple diverse tasks.

Responsibilities: 

  • Tool Creation & Enhancement - Design and implement software tools using various technologies to address specific operational challenges or enhance existing processes.

  • Technical Expertise - Demonstrate deep proficiency in multiple programming languages and technologies and use this expertise to craft efficient and scalable solutions.

  • Collaborative Development - Work across the organization for diverse internal clients and translate their unique requirements into functional tools.

  • Architectural Decision-Making - Depending on the scale of the effort the candidate will plan and design the architecture for tool development projects requiring strong analytical skills in addition to technical proficiency.

  • Continuous Refinement- Iteratively refine tools based on feedback, new requirements, or emerging technologies.

  • Mentorship & Guidance - The selected candidate is expected to grow with the position. They will help select, mentor, and provide guidance to junior engineers as the need for tools within Defcon grows.

  • Stay Updated - The selected candidate will be committed to continuous learning, staying updated with the latest in tool development technologies and methodologies.

Requirements/Qualifications:  

  • Problem-Solving Skills - A knack for tackling technical challenges head-on and finding innovative solutions

  • Deep Programming Knowledge - A solid grasp of multiple programming languages and a proven track record of using them in real-world projects. Special consideration for proficiency in languages commonly used for web-based tools.

  • Web Technologies - Proficient in web technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern web frameworks.

  • Cloud Platforms - Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, especially AWS, and familiarity with how they can be harnessed for tool development.

  • Container Expertise - Experience with container technologies like Docker and Kubernetes, with a focus on deploying and managing multi-component systems.

  • Database Interaction - Experience interacting with cloud-hosted database systems—both relational and non-relational. Proven experience in designing, implementing, and optimizing database interactions in tool development.

  • APIs & Web Services Mastery - Deep understanding of API and web service design, development, and integration. Experience in both consuming and exposing APIs.

  • Team Player - Excellent collaborative skills, with an ability to communicate complex technical ideas to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Self-Directed - The successful will be strongly self-motivated and able to work independently when needed.

  • Educational Background - While formal education in Computer Science or a related field is preferred, Defcon AI places a high emphasis on demonstrable skills, hands-on experience, and a proven track record in tool development.
