The role
This role is part of the People and Culture (P&C) team dedicated to Gemini, our conversational AI tool that enables users to collaborate with generative AI and help augment their imagination, expand their curiosity, and enhance their productivity.
You will partner with a small global team of People & Culture Partners who are responsible for partnering with leaders to drive healthy and high performing teams. You will proactively design and implement product aligned people and culture solutions that drive high performing teams, aligning the strategy with organizational goals and delivering measurable impact You will also lead cross functional People and Culture (P&C) deliverables, ensuring alignment on complex projects and that People activities support the product’s needs.
Key responsibilities
- Drive Business Strategy and Outcomes: Leverage a deep understanding of the organisation's operational, financial and people components to drive people and workforce solutions that ensure the Function is capable of achieving its strategy, outcomes and growth.
- Site Culture: You will proactively and regularly assess the Zurich site culture and develop customised people solutions that help build an environment where the business can thrive and grow.
- Leadership: You will directly partner with leadership to design and implement their people plan and drive a high performance culture. This will require:
- Leadership effectiveness: Assesses Zurich site leadership and team effectiveness, develops plans and takes action to address gaps. Coach/advise leaders individually and as a team
- Collaboration: Address undefined and ambiguous problems, researching and assessing varied approaches, and leveraging new ideas.
- Creative problem solving: Implement innovative and considered solutions in a rapidly changing and sometimes ambiguous environment.
- A data driven approach: Use data and research to make recommendations or implement changes.
- Onboarding: Help onboard new executives and ensure they are set up for success to allow for fast impact.
- Change Agent: Influence critical strategies and initiatives to optimise the alignment between people and business objectives. This will require:
- Acting with confidence in an inspiring and fast paced environment, instilling trust in everyone you interact with, and delivering thoughtful and bespoke solutions.
- Being proactive and adaptable - if you don’t know the answer you are tenacious in finding it out.
- Focusing on continuous improvement (Kaizen approach)
- P&C team collaboration: Collaborate with multiple teams to drive and manage complex issues and create shared solutions. This will include:
- Promoting best practices in HR, talent planning, and organisational design.
- Building an equitable and fair environment for employees by identifying workplace culture gaps and developing solutions against them.
- Compliance: Share and educate on the local compliance requirements and collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure local compliance including Employee Relations and Labor Relations (working with local Works Council.
About you
In order to set you up for success as a People & Culture Partner at Google DeepMind, we look for the following skills and experience:
- You have substantial experience operating as an HR professional, preferably some of which was in a small but fast growing business, where you had to build innovative HR practices and frameworks yourself
- Experience thought partnering with leaders, offering consultation and influencing their people strategy
- Extensive knowledge of employment legislation in Zurich and across Europe and ideally an experience working with Works Councils
- You enjoy a blend of partnering and project work and can seamlessly move from one to the other
- You possess an outstanding understanding of human behaviour including an understanding of self
- You are able to build solid relationships with people quickly and have a high sense of empathy; you put them at ease and create understanding.
- You are extremely organised, and used to working at a very quick pace and balancing many different tasks. You are proactive and see what needs to be done.
- You can effectively navigate ambiguity and enjoy changeable environments where you can implement creative and innovative ideas.
- You enjoy variety and feel that no task is too big or too small.
- You are inventive and enjoy managing your own work and projects. You like operating independently but also love being part of a highly encouraging and collaborative team. You share information and support the growth and development of others in your team and understand that succeed or fail, we do so as a team.
