About the Role:

CARS Software Engineering is looking for great software engineers to join our product engineering team for the next phase of our business and technical evolution. In 2021, we launched a new platform that is allowing us to accelerate our teamwork and transform Cars.com, a 20-year-old public company, and will ultimately enable our continued innovation and fuel our mission.

Who you are

  • You have 4+ years of professional experience writing and maintaining production-level applications

  • You’ve built sophisticated products with cross-functional teams (Product, Design, Engineering, etc.)

  • You’re highly proficient in modern front-end programming languages (Javascript/Typescript)

  • You’re comfortable in modern back-end web programming languages (such as Ruby, Python, Elixir)

  • You understand the complexities and challenges of working in the modern web

  • You care about documentation, sharing knowledge, and encouraging best-practices

  • You’re pragmatic in your approach; making continual, incremental improvements

  • You prioritize code-health, testing, maintainability, and solving problems using data-driven solutions.

  • You seek opportunities to improve inefficient processes to make fellow engineers more productive

  • You seek to resolve issues at the root to prevent them from occurring in the future


  • You'll work within a cross-functional team of engineers, designers, product owners, and other disciplines to build high-quality products on Cars.com

  • You’ll develop and exhibit subject matter expertise in front end engineering, and help instill best practices across the engineering team

  • You’ll contribute towards a collaborative, inclusive, and healthy engineering culture
