Data & Society Research Institute is seeking a dynamic and energetic Program Manager to provide administrative and project management for the Director of Research.

 

About the Program Manager, Research

The Program Manager, Research (“PMR”) will have the responsibility for facilitating and coordinating all activities for the research program. This is a newly created role for Data & Society and is tasked to coordinate and support the research team’s multi-faceted programming utilizing relevant project management tools, as well as provide administrative oversight and day-to-day management of the program. The PMR loves research but loves helping others do important research even more, and manages and prioritizes multiple concurrent projects, completing work under pressure to meet strict deadlines. The PMR works both independently and collaboratively with members of the research team and other key members of the organization.

 

The ideal candidate is excited about shaping a newly created role within a young and fast-moving organization and is committed to the development, continuous iteration and innovation within the Research team and the organization. They enjoy thinking strategically about what is needed for research to be useful, relevant, and accessible and enjoys providing project management and support.

 

The PMR role is a full-time, exempt position, and reports directly to the Director of Research.

 

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and plan meetings, workshops, retreats, office hours, and seminars;
  • Manage the outreach and recruitment efforts for the postdoctoral and fellowship calls;
  • Liaise with the human resources department on the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding new research team members;
  • Manage the implementation of academic workshops, collaborating with researchers and events;
  • Provide project management support to research initiatives;
  • Liaise with the Operations/Strategy team on knowledge management for the research team;
  • Identify, acquire, and maintain necessary resources for the research team, such as library access;
  • Manage the research administration budget;
  • Identify and coordinate professional development opportunities and initiatives for the research team;
  • Manage the organizational calendar, as it pertains to the research team;
  • Collaborate with researchers and the communication department on planning and timing for engagement;
  • Collaborate with editorial staff on the pipeline for research projects;
  • Support the research team by coordinating network connections, assisting in navigating within the organization, providing access to information and resources, and representing their interests and capabilities to leadership.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree preferred
  • A minimum of five years experience in a nonprofit, government, or philanthropy, or university working on research-related project management issues
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and workflow and project management tools

Practical Considerations

  • This position is located at the Data & Society office in the Flat Iron district of New York City and allows for some telecommuting at the discretion of the Director of Research.
  • You must be eligible to work in the United States. Data & Society is unable to sponsor visas at this time.
  • You will be offered a generous benefits package including health insurance, paid time off (PTO), and paid holidays.

 

Salary: $75K - $85K (Commensurate to experience)
