Role: Strategy Director

OVERVIEW:

 Dare has an illustrious heritage as one of the UK’s pioneering digital agencies, famous for its creativity, innovative thinking, and rigorous strategic approach. After a few years of hiatus, it is now getting its mojo back, under new leadership from Chris Woodward. Within the Inside Ideas Group, it has the opportunity to act as the ‘strategic nose cone’ helping clients deliver connected brand experiences from the inside.

 

 Dare has always put planning at the heart of its offer, was an early adopter of behavioral science, and pioneered the discipline of Experience Planning. However, with language around ‘customer experience’ now commonplace, we need to make sure that our strategic offer is distinctive, and that it combines strong brand and commercial thinking alongside user experience capabilities.

We are therefore looking for a Strategy Director to set a vision (with the CSO) as to how Dare’s strategic offer will develop. This role will work very closely with Chris and Dare’s new Design Director in sharpening Dare’s proposition, pitching for new business and expanding the remit with existing clients. This role will involve close collaboration with the Experience Planning and Data teams to overhaul Dare’s planning IP, and to deliver work that hits the creative heights that Dare’s reputation deserves.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Strategy Director role has four key areas of responsibility

  1. Bringing brand and commercial thinking to elevate the strategic work we do for existing clients
    • Ensuring that the brand experiences we design are creatively distinctive, and business driving
    • Identifying further strategic and creative opportunities
  1. Developing Dare’s planning philosophy and strategic toolkit
    • Working with the CSO and the other Dare planners to define our approach to brand experience planning
    • Refining existing tools and ways of working and developing new ones
    • Communicating this within Dare, the wider IIG group and externally through training and thought leadership
  1. Developing Dare’s proposition and winning new clients
    • Working with Chris and the new design director to sharpen Dare’s proposition and go to market strategy
    • Leading new business pitches for Dare from a strategic point of view
    • Providing an advisory role for Oliver/IIG new business when appropriate
    • Authoring thought leadership pieces to help with new business prospecting
  1. Leading the planning team
    • Day to day mentoring and management
    • Career development and training

 

KEY OBJECTIVES FOR THE ROLE (year 1)

  • Deliver a new planning philosophy and approach for Dare, codified and understood by the entire company, and managing partners within OLIVER
  • Help deliver a new Dare proposition and go to market plan
  • Drive innovation in strategic thinking for key clients (Barclays, Invesco, Vision Express), such that clients award us more projects
  • Develop at least three case studies that demonstrate our strategic and creative capability
  • Land some positive external PR for Dare thinking through thought leadership or platform speaking
  • Win at least two strategic projects – either with existing clients or with new business pitches

KEY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Strong experience in building digital strategies for big brands that drive business value
  • Strong experience of translating brand positioning into design thinking
  • Strong experience of building customer journeys
  • Literate in all techniques to understand customer behavior and able to unearth powerful insights
  • Strong experience of developing broad-based content strategies that encompass owned, paid and earned media
