Home geothermal technology was developed over half a century ago but has failed to reach widespread adoption despite being, on average, 48% more efficient than furnaces using gas, and 75% more efficient than furnaces using oil. While many HVAC companies sell geothermal heat pumps, they may only install a handful of custom systems each year, leaving them with little opportunity to develop or refine the specialized skill set required to enable peak system performance, let alone identify and manage inefficiencies at scale.
That’s where Dandelion Geothermal comes in. Dandelion, formerly incubated at Google’s X Lab, is on a mission to make geothermal heating and cooling affordable for homeowners by creating a totally streamlined process from start to finish. Dandelion now operates out of New York City and Upstate New York. We raised $23MM from leading investors including GV (formerly Google Ventures), and Comcast Ventures, with participation from Lennar Corporation (NYSE: LEN and LENB), as well as prior investors NEA, Collaborative Fund, and Ground Up.
At Dandelion, Safety is our main priority and we strive to ensure all of our projects are completed with the highest regard to safety and quality assurance. The Safety Manager will build a culture of safety in the company through administering the safety program and will serve as a safety advisor to all of our team members ensuring safety compliance by the project’s team including all employees and subcontractors working at the site.
The Safety Manager will be expected to contribute collaboratively, cross-functionally across multiple departments, and independently with minimal oversight. This position will report to the Director of Operations
- Policy Creation
- This includes specific tasks as well as program creation
- Compilation of existing policies, creation of new ones, and assembling a comprehensive program that thoughtfully considers all hazards associated with Dandelion work.
- Site Audits and Training:
- Regular visits to job sites and warehouse to coach the crew on best practices.
- Completion of jobsite safety audits in real time and providing feedback in both an effective and quantifiable way
- Improve the employee experience through training, process improvements, and direct field employee interaction.
- Ensure that all Dandelion Employees have the necessary safety training to perform their job duties
- Problem solving:
- Analysis of each aspect of construction and work that takes place now or in the future and identify both hazards and solutions to protect from, eliminate, or minimize the hazards
- Incident Management:
- Lead all incident investigations
- Partner with stakeholders to put any necessary process changes in place that would prevent future incidents from happening
- Meet frequently with key stakeholders to review any safety program changes, updates, or concerns.
- Effectively communicate and affect change when it is needed.
- OSHA 30 Certification- Practical knowledge of OSHA laws, regulations and policies
- Working knowledge of Construction Safety Principles including safety for heavy equipment such as excavators, drill rigs, skid steers, or cranes.
- Experience training others on technical topics and processes.
- Capable of identifying known potential exposures and recommending corrective action
- Daily travel within Northeast region required.
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
- Coaching, not Policing approach towards Safety
- OSHA 500 or Greater
