Cytokinetics is a late-stage, specialty cardiovascular biopharmaceutical company focused on discovering, developing and commercializing first-in-class muscle activators and next-in-class muscle inhibitors as potential treatments for debilitating diseases in which cardiac muscle performance is compromised. As a leader in muscle biology and the mechanics of muscle performance, the company is developing small molecule drug candidates specifically engineered to impact myocardial muscle function and contractility.

We are seeking a talented individual to generate, analyze, and interpret proteomics datasets from in vivo and in vitro studies in support of Cytokinetics’ discovery and development programs. Using state-of-the-art instrumentation and analysis tools, the successful candidate will establish and apply MS-based proteomics assays to characterize disease and efficacy biomarkers in models of cardiovascular and neuromuscular diseases. Additionally, this individual will collaborate with other members of the Advanced Mass Spectrometry group to integrate metabolomics, lipidomics, and fluxomics datasets, leading to meaningful discoveries. As a member of the Biology Technologies team, the candidate will collaborate with multi-disciplinary departments to support drug discovery efforts, united by the shared mission of improving the lives of patients.

Responsibilities

  • Independently design and execute label-free or labeled bottom-up proteomics experiments to identify disease and efficacy biomarkers in blood and tissues
  • Develop workstreams to elucidate protein-ligand interactions (e.g. covalent ligand-protein binding) using various approaches, including intact/native, or top-down mass spectrometry
  • Optimize sample preparation and LC-MS methods for protein/PTM profiling using top-down or bottom-up proteomics
  • Generate high-quality data with high precision and reliability, performing rigorous data analysis to drive research projects to completion
  • Leverage Cytokinetics’ existing mass spectrometry platforms to develop and reliably implement novel or published proteomics assays based on project needs
  • Analyze and interpret proteomics datasets, presenting results to stakeholders in a timely manner through written and verbal presentations
  • Integrate proteomics data with other omics and phenotypic data generated within the Advanced Mass Spectrometry group
  • Stay current with and adopt emergent analytical methodologies, tools, and applications to ensure fit-for-purpose and impactful approaches

Qualifications

  • PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or a related field with 2+ years of hands-on experience performing bottom-up proteomics in a pharmaceutical or biotechnology setting
  • Experience with discovery proteomics approaches (e.g., DIA-PASEF, DDA, TMT, SWATH) and corresponding data analysis tools
  • Hands-on experience with LC-MS operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of multiple types of LC-MS systems (e.g., Bruker timsTOF, Agilent QToF, Sciex 7600) is required
  • Proficiency in analyzing proteomics datasets using software packages (e.g., Bruker ProteoScape, Spectronaut, DIA-NN, MS-Fragger, MaxQuant) is essential
  • Knowledge and proficiency in sample preparation techniques for analyzing biomarkers and other mediators from various biological matrices (e.g., plasma, tissues) from top-down and bottom-up proteomics experiments
  • Hands-on experience preparing, analyzing, and interpreting proteomics datasets generated from biological samples, along with deep knowledge of proteomics principles and sample preparation workflows
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Highly organized, with exceptional attention to detail and strong documentation skills
  • Coding experience with the ability to write scripts to automate data analysis is preferred
  • Experience incorporating liquid handling automation with proteomics method development is preferred
  • Prior experience applying label-free proteomics to study off-target effects of targeted protein degrading (TPD) approaches is highly preferred

Actual salary at the time of hire may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant qualifications, skills, and experience, as well as the service line and location where this position may be filled.
