Cytokinetics is a late-stage, specialty cardiovascular biopharmaceutical company focused on discovering, developing and commercializing first-in-class muscle activators and next-in-class muscle inhibitors as potential treatments for debilitating diseases in which cardiac muscle performance is compromised. As a leader in muscle biology and the mechanics of muscle performance, the company is developing small molecule drug candidates specifically engineered to impact myocardial muscle function and contractility.

We are seeking a dynamic and proactive individual to join our Cytokinetics’ team in an Opinion Leader Engagement leadership role. This is a field based, commercial role responsible for establishing and maintaining strong relationships with commercial Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) in an assigned geography.  This role will report to the Regional Business Director for the West Region and the ideal candidate will reside in CA, AZ, or TX.  We will consider other locations within the Region as well. 

Activities include conducting in-person and virtual engagements using approved materials with Key Opinion Leaders. The role will be responsible for supporting commercial activities between assigned KOLs and appropriate cross-functional partners within the assigned geography as well as commercially support KOLs at Local, Regional, and as appropriate, National scientific meetings. The Opinion Leader Relations role will be a key point of contact between their assigned KOLs and Cytokinetics to advance the organization's commercial goals and provide KOL perspectives into Cytokinetics' long-term brand vision and strategy.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain strong commercial relationships with KOL’s as they navigate Cytokinetics to create a consistent and positive KOL engagement experience with the commercial organization.
  • Identify, cultivate, and strengthen strategic relationships with commercial KOLs by facilitating on-label peer-to-peer approved disease state knowledge exchanges. In addition, routinely engage in interactions during individual meetings, medical conferences, and advisory boards. These interactions will have an emphasis on understanding clinical practice, uncovering unmet clinical needs and help shape Cytokinetics’ brand objectives.
  • Lead the annual process for the development of the KOL engagement plan, including KOL identification, strategies, and tactics.
  • Monitor and execute the management of speaker utilization trends to ensure the execution of company goals and speaker bureau educational effectiveness.
  • Compliantly collaborate with internal stakeholders, including Marketing, Sales Leadership and Managed Care, to align KOL engagement with long term strategic business objectives.
  • Engage in appropriate cross-functional company-wide workstreams with other non-commercial internal stakeholders, such as Medical Affairs or Corporate Affairs.
  • Coordinate KOL participation during commercial events and Local and Regional conferences, ensuring their involvement is scientifically accurate and effectively supports Cytokinetics' brand strategy.
  • Consistently provide KOL insights to the sales team and the brand team to inform strategies and customer-facing resources.
  • Achieve commercial goals defined at a National and Regional level where the individual operates and executes activities consistent with the Company Code of Ethics & Business Conduct, PhRMA Code, and other applicable industry guidelines and expectations.
  • Compliantly share best practices and benchmarking that help optimize the HCM patient experience to impact overall patient care within their assigned geography.
  • Accurate and timely documentation of activities within company Customer Relationship Manager.
  • Pursue projects independently with a high degree of quality and timely execution.

Required Qualifications:  

  • A bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of combined sales, marketing, or related experience which includes primary responsibility for engaging KOLs in the biopharmaceutical industry.
  • Cardiovascular or rare disease experience.
  • Successful track record supporting product launches.
  • Effective communication, presentation, and project management skills with a demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and work collaboratively with cross-functional partners to achieve organizational goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to stay informed about scientific industry trends, thought leadership, and disease management best practices.
  • Ability to lead and influence without direct authority.
  • High level of professional integrity and strong commitment to compliance & serving as a compliance champion
  • Proven track record of consistently achieving or exceeding expectations in assigned responsibilities.
  • Valid and active driver's license and acceptable driving record
  • Ability to travel approximately 75% and proximity to a major airport
  • Comply with all credentialing requirements for any healthcare institution including routine background checks, medical testing or proof of immunizations, and training on facility policies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree, preferred.
  • Scientific background, e.g. RN, PharmD, or related professional background
  • Launch experience, preferred.
  • Opinion Leader experience preferred.

 

NOTE:   Salary Pay Range listed is for CA-based candidates only.

Actual salary at the time of hire may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant qualifications, skills, and experience, as well as the service line and location where this position may be filled.
