Cytokinetics is a late-stage, specialty cardiovascular biopharmaceutical company focused on discovering, developing and commercializing first-in-class muscle activators and next-in-class muscle inhibitors as potential treatments for debilitating diseases in which cardiac muscle performance is compromised. As a leader in muscle biology and the mechanics of muscle performance, the company is developing small molecule drug candidates specifically engineered to impact myocardial muscle function and contractility.

The National Managed Healthcare Medical Scientist (MHMS) is a field-based scientific expert who applies clinical, health economic, managed care, and health policy expertise to engage in peer to peer scientific and clinical value discussions with top key national and relevant regional population-based decision makers.   This includes but is not limited to Managed Care Organizations (MCO), Specialty Pharmacies (SP), Pharmaceutical Benefit Managers (PBM), and Integrated Delivery Networks (IDN).

This position can be remote from West Coast or Midwest region of the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Identify key national* and regional population-based healthcare decision makers. Proactively maintain and broaden professional relationships with healthcare professionals in managed care, government accounts and institutions to expand research, advisory, and educational partnership opportunities; identify areas of unmet medical need; and assure thoughtful exchange of current medical information related to products in development and therapeutic areas of importance.  *Key National Payer/PBM accounts include United Health Group, OptumRx, Aetna, CVS, Cigna, Prime, Express Scripts, Elevance, Humana, Kaiser Permanente, and government accounts
  • Provide clear and customized communication of scientific, clinical value and health policy information to health access decision makers. Document and communicate meaningful insights to contribute to strategy, identifying data gaps and clinical opportunities to improve patient health
  • Complete milestones by demonstrating a high-level of scientific and clinical value knowledge, understanding the customer (managed care account, PBM, etc) perspective, understanding disease state, underlying science, treatment guidelines, meaningful differentiation and clinical value of our products across the portfolio
  • Propose recommendations by maintaining a superior understanding of current trends in managed care and research important to payers and patients, competitive developments, patient care, and their impact on Cytokinetics’ medical strategies
  • Anticipate, identify and address scientific data, research and health policy needs of customers and patients. Partner with customers to identify data gaps and build mutual partnerships in improving patient health
  • Be the medical lead within the integrated assigned account team serving an integral role in appropriate planning, strategy development and execution with an account
  • Integrate and work collaboratively across the enterprise including but not limited to Medical Affairs, Market Access, and Health Economics and Outcomes Research
  • Serve as a scientific expert at key medical and scientific conferences, advisory boards, clinical investigator meetings, and internal meetings
  • Generate National Account Field Medical Affairs plans to identify collaborative opportunities with population based accounts and institutions, review scientific program of relevant conferences, attend sessions, support exhibit booth operations, and contribute to a timely written conference report summarizing key information, activities, and competitive intelligence to colleagues
  • Provide accurate and timely documentation of his/her activities within applicable company databases and platforms

Qualifications

  • Advanced clinical or scientific degree (PharmD, PhD, or MD/DO) preferred with 5+ years of experience in medical affairs managed care industry role
  • 5+ years of experience with national payers/PBMs preferred
  • Advanced scientific and business acumen – includes sophisticated understanding of the healthcare landscape
  • Understanding and ability to identify, apply and communicate HEOR
  • Self-motivated, proactive, innovative problem-solving skills, and solution oriented
  • Must be analytical and articulate in both oral and written communications, possess excellent presentation skills, with a demonstrated ability to communicate well with external stakeholders and all internal levels of the organization
  • Must possess knowledge of the Medical Science Liaison roles and responsibilities and understand compliance within the PhRMA Code Standards for Interactions with U.S. Healthcare Providers, Federal and State promotional laws and regulations, ACCME Standards, the Code of Business Conduct and Ethics, and all other company policies, rules and regulations
  • A valid US Driver’s License and good driving record are required
  • Ability to travel both domestically (~50%-60%) and internationally on occasion.

 

Actual salary at the time of hire may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant qualifications, skills, and experience, as well as the service line and location where this position may be filled.

$209,000$255,000 USD
