At Cypress.io, we're on a mission to make software testing delightful and effective and thus dramatically improve the efficiency and quality of modern software development. Today, Cypress provides better, faster, and more reliable testing for anything that runs in a browser. Hundreds of thousands of developers and QA professionals use Cypress to write better code faster and release with confidence.

Cypress is currently used in over 90 countries by hundreds of thousands of developers across more than 30,000 organizations. Cypress has over 2,500 customers in more than 60 countries across 45 industries and includes marquee names like Atlassian, Crunchbase, GitHub, PayPal, and Slack.

The company was founded in 2015 and has raised $55M in capital to date, including a $40M Series B financing in November 2020, led by OpenView Partners, with participation from Bessemer Venture Partners, Battery Ventures, Sapphire Ventures, and Stripes.co.

Your Mission:

The power behind Cypress is its ability to give feedback to engineering teams on what they are building, and the fulcrum of that power is the quality and speed of that feedback. The Test Runner and the Cypress Cloud platform operate in tandem to provide that feedback, and the platform specifically speaks to the kinds of feedback that can’t be found locally: trends, habits, weaknesses, and other patterns. As a Staff Engineer on the Cypress Cloud Platform, your responsibility is to guide the team on the technical growth and capability of this platform. Not only will you guide important architectural decisions, but you will implement them and both mentor & learn from the engineers on the team. You will grow our business by upleveling our architecture and the engineers that build it. The grist of the work will be building the short- and long-term data storage patterns, building pipelines, data warehouses, APIs, and making it easy for other teams to contribute to the Cypress analytics ecosystem.

What’s this mean, in a nutshell?

  • You value building up yourself and your team
  • You are results-driven
  • You see something all the way to its completion
  • You measure the success of your solutions
  • You believe in improving efficiency of developers, and you believe in delighting customers

The team:

The Cypress Cloud team builds the premier product of Cypress, the analytics engine and her observations. The team builds services that immediately impact the daily workflow of thousands of organizations using Cypress around the world. The team develops user-facing web applications that enable developers like you to have confidence in the software they are building.

The role:

Our ideal candidate will see and drive deep product and backend improvements to fruition. This means writing positions (tech briefs) on why a problem should be solved, and its possible solutions. The ideal candidate’s definition of “full-stack” goes from the browser site of an app, through the API calls that power it, into the data storage and data ingestion pipelines as well as the deployment patterns in publishing and running the services. You have seen all of this and love getting things done.

  • Look beyond symptoms to assess and comprehend the core problems of our customers and our solutions to them
  • Create technical design artifacts to help define, scope and prioritize high impact solutions
  • Balance short-term execution with longer-term concerns such as extensibility and reuse
  • Use data to understand the availability, reliability and sustainability of our infrastructure
  • Architect key systems to handle the scale of our increasing customer load
  • Guide and uplevel the engineers around you
  • Peer review others’ code and give actionable feedback
  • Demonstrate flexibility, engagement and efficiency working as part of distributed development teams

  • Passionate about architecting applications and code that is tested, scalable, and performant
  • Being a self starter with the ability to take on a high degree of individual ownership
  • Experience with various database technologies like Postgres, Redis, and graphQL
  • Experience with distributed systems and data pipeline technologies like message queues, big data query engines and data store patterns (such as Kafka, Clickhouse, Red Shift, etc)
  • Strong grasp of testing fundamentals and continuous delivery practices
  • Operational experience with web-scale infrastructure on Public cloud platforms like AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Azure, Heroku etc.
  • Experience with observability tools, including aggregate loggers, system health monitors, and trend/graphing tools
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Minimum 10 years of software engineering experience

Although we list out what we generally look for, we are very likely missing other attributes and skills that you have that could make you a great fit, and are not currently listed. Research has shown this especially applies to women and other marginalized groups, who tend to apply if they check 100% of every box, versus men who apply if they hit roughly 60%. The point we’re getting at, it doesn’t hurt to take a chance and apply!

We are an inclusive employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.

Your answer will be maintained confidentially and not be seen by selecting officials or anyone else involved in making personnel decisions.
