The Position

Cygnal is seeking a Research Associate/ Sr. Research Associate to join our Platform Biology team, working closely with our scientists across multiple backgrounds including neuroscience, immunology and neuroimmunology to develop and perform assays and identify targets and therapeutics. The candidate must be highly motivated, creative, goal oriented, and willing to work in a highly dynamic and fast-paced entrepreneurial environment.


  • Design and execute experiments, generate and analyze data, and communicate data to scientific team and executive management
  • Validate and optimize novel screening platforms
  • Follow experimental approaches for target identification and validation in vitro and in vivo
  • Collaborate with other scientists and research associates to achieve company objectives

 Skills & Abilities

  • General cell and molecular biology skills including western blotting, qPCR, and cell culture
  • Experience with one or more of the following assays: primary neuron or immune-based assays, multi-panel immunophenotyping, cell isolation from primary tissues, immunological ex vivo bioassays, immunohistochemistry.
  • Creative, independent, self-motivated and curious.
  • Highly adaptable and responsive to technical and business opportunities and needs – comfortable delivering against challenging commitments.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of conveying information in a clear and thorough manner.
  • Confident, execution focused, team oriented, with an ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS/MS in neurobiology, immunology, cell biology, or related discipline, preferentially with 0-5 years related laboratory experience, working in biotech/pharma or academic environment.
  • Efficient time management, excellent organizational and communication skills, problem solving skills and a high degree of flexibility.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Preferred qualifications: Experience in innovative assay development, e.g. co-culture assays, high throughput imaging read-outs, etc.
  • Preferred qualifications: Experience in target validation, using both genetic tools and compounds for target manipulation.
