Cygnal Therapeutics is seeking a highly motivated and experienced biochemist to join our team of drug hunters to identify high quality chemical starting points. The successful candidate will report to the SVP Small Molecules Drug Discovery and be a self-starter who thrives in a highly collaborative and fast paced environment.
  • · Apply your drug hunting expertise to plan and execute screening and hit generation campaigns.
  • · Work closely and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team of biologists, medicinal chemists, bioinformaticians, and pharmacologists.
  • · Oversee all aspects of protein science, assay development and HTS and communicate effectively to your discovery partners and senior leadership.
  • · Prioritize activities and resources at external partners to ensure timeline adherence and project alignment with company goals.
  • · Manage external resources at CROs as well as staff on-site.
  • · Proactively identify sources of inefficiency and propose novel technologies and collaborations.
  • Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Enzymology, Biophysics or a related field
  • 10+ years of relevant biotech and/or pharmaceutical industry experience
  • Led protein science, assay development and screening campaigns across different target classes including GPCRs and ion channels working with external partners
  • Experience designing and executing hit generation and triage strategies including fragment-based screenings
  • Proven ability to manage timelines and resources to drive projects toward key decision points
  • Track record of excellence supported by high impact, peer-reviewed publications and/or patents
  • Keen attention to detail and a strong sense of urgency and ability to work in a multi-disciplinary and team-focused environment
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of conveying technical information in a clear and thorough manner
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with protein engineering and DEL screenings
  • Experience with protein-protein interactions both in cell free and cell based assays
  • Experience with targeted protein degradation programs
  • Drug discovery experience in the field of oncology, immuno-oncology or neuroscience
