Cygnal Therapeutics is seeking a highly motivated and innovative chemical biologist to work at the interface of discovery biology and chemical biology. The successful candidate will report to SVP Small Molecules Drug Discovery and join a cross-functional team responsible for novel target-tool molecule pair ID and validation. Successful candidates should be a self-starter and thrive in a highly collaborative and fast paced environment.
  • Work closely with discovery biology and bioinformatics teams to plan and oversee phenotypic screens and their deconvolution using appropriate MoA studies.
  • Build innovative solutions and enabling capabilities focused on rapid target identification & validation
  • Manage external resources at CROs as well as direct reports on-site
  • Prioritize chemical biology activities and resources to ensure timeline adherence and project alignment with company goals and communicate effectively to discovery partners and senior leadership.
  • Proactively identify sources of inefficiency and solutions, new technologies and lead external collaborations.
  • Ph.D. in chemistry or biology with 5+ years of relevant biotech and/or pharmaceutical industry experience leading target ID and validation efforts
  • Demonstrated contributions in target and tool molecule binding site identification and validation
  • Expertise in cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, chemoproteomics and broad understanding of drug discovery
  • Expertise in biochemical and/or biophysical tools to evaluate small molecule drug binding to target protein
  • Expertise in chemistry, especially as it relates to probe design and tissue targeting
  • Proven ability to manage timelines and resources and identify and lead collaborations in chemical biology field
  • Track record of excellence supported by high impact, peer-reviewed publications and/or patents
  • Keen attention to detail with a strong sense of urgency and ability to work in a multi-disciplinary and team-focused environment
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of conveying technical information in a clear and thorough manner
  • Experience in planning, project leadership, laboratory and budget management
  • Experience in the application of genetic and/or computational methods to study pathways and identify targets
  • Ability to manage complexity and ambiguity in a highly matrixed work environment
  • Drug discovery experience in the field of oncology, immuno-oncology or neuroscience
