About the role

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on accounting professional to lead the content accounting team, managing our sub-ledgers and all related systems and activities for a catalog that includes thousands of distinct titles. Licensed content is life of our organization, representing the single largest expense item and asset on our P&L and balance sheet, respectively. As such, the Director of Content Accounting is a visible position with frequent interactions with senior leadership, and requires the ability to translate often complex or technical matters to non-accounting stakeholders.  You will have experience in media, dealing with royalties/participations in a high volume, data intensive environment. Key to success in this role will be the ability to quickly comprehend and assess the capabilities of the teams, identify opportunities to improve current processes, and identify and implement any changes to systems to improve efficiency and accuracy.

A day in the life of our Director Content Accounting

  • Lead the content accounting team, with initial oversight of two dedicated team members, managing a catalog of 3,000+ unique titles.
  • Lead the design and implementation of a system to help automate all content related accounting calculations (accruals and actuals), partnering with our internal systems team and other stakeholders to assess existing needs and capabilities, and identification of an external vendor/software that can deliver a solution meeting all requirements.
  • Oversee and maintain the content accounting policy for the global organization, including related asset capitalization, amortization, impairment/write-off process and methodology, partnering with our parent company technical accounting team to ensure alignment with company policy.
  • Build all relevant SOX compliance controls.
  • Review all monthly/quarterly content JEs and supporting documentation, including accruals and subsequent true-ups of COGS, assets and liabilities.
  • Lead the preparation and presentation of content accounting matters, including impact of any material adjustments, explanation of period over period variances or deviations from forecasted expectations, to all all partners.
  • Partner across multiple departments to identify any process improvement projects of all content related financial information, and strict adherence to internal controls.
  • Review any content related intercompany transactions/entries and ensure understanding across domestic and international teams.
  • Partner with FP&A team to build content related budget/forecast projections.
  • Lead effort to align accounting policy, process and systems across all subsidiary locations, domestic and international, including existing subsidiary finance teams and any subsequently acquired entities.
  • Responsible for all content-related reporting requirements, including standard monthly/quarterly deliverables and supplemental information as needed by our publicly traded parent company.
  • Lead the response to any external auditor requests as required.

In the role of Director of Content Accounting, you will report to the Global Controller.

We are considering applicants for the location(s) of San Francisco and Culver City, CA.

Race & Ethnicity Definitions

If you believe you belong to any of the categories of protected veterans listed below, please indicate by making the appropriate selection. As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

An "active duty wartime or campaign badge veteran" means a veteran who served on active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service during a war, or in a campaign or expedition for which a campaign badge has been authorized under the laws administered by the Department of Defense.

An "Armed forces service medal veteran" means a veteran who, while serving on active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service, participated in a United States military operation for which an Armed Forces service medal was awarded pursuant to Executive Order 12985.

OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
