We're Cruise, a self-driving service designed for the cities we love.

We’re building the world’s most advanced, self-driving vehicles to safely connect people to the places, things, and experiences they care about. We believe self-driving vehicles will help save lives, reshape cities, give back time in transit, and restore freedom of movement for many.

Cruisers have the opportunity to grow and develop while learning from leaders at the forefront of their fields. With a culture of internal mobility, there's an opportunity to thrive in a variety of disciplines. This is a place for dreamers and doers to succeed.

If you are looking to play a part in making a positive impact in the world by advancing the revolutionary work of self-driving cars, join us.

About the role:

In this position, you will lead a diverse engineering team to design, develop, and validate equipment and processes for calibrating autonomous vehicles. You will work closely with the Cruise software and hardware teams as well as GM engineers to design, simulate, analyze, and build scalable vehicle calibration systems that can be deployed in Cruise and GM facilities worldwide.

If you are looking to solve one of today’s most complex engineering challenges, see the results of your work in hundreds of self-driving cars, and make a positive impact in the world starting in our cities, join us.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Be responsible for the execution of the technical roadmap for calibration hardware development and be responsible for on-time and on budget delivery of this roadmap
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a cross-functional team of hardware, systems, and manufacturing engineers to redefine how Cruise calibrates autonomous vehicles
  • Collaborate with software and hardware teams to design, implement, test, and source the hardware, software, and processes required to calibrate current and future AV sensor suites
  • Through design, testing, and analysis, lead the team to transition calibration infrastructure from R&D to production and meet aggressive program timelines
  • Select and work with vendors to manufacture calibration equipment on tight timelines
  • Synthesize system performance requirements using guidance from cross-functional stakeholders and use these requirements to inform calibration architecture decisions

What you must have:

  • BS or MS in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Software, Aerospace, etc.), Math, Physics, or equivalent experience
  • 6+ years of engineering experience working with complex electromechanical systems
  • 2+ years leading technical teams as a project lead and/or people manager
  • Experience calibrating and/or leveraging typical AV sensors (IMU, lidar, camera, radar, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of physics, statistics, and design of experiments
  • Experience in manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, robotics, or similar industry
  • Understanding of how mechanical, electrical, and software engineering components interact along with which discipline can most easily solve a given technical problem
  • Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and comfort working in a dynamic startup environment
  • Ability to lead and mentor a diverse team addressing multiple simultaneous technical projects

Bonus Points!

  • Experience with volume production systems, industrial automation, and statistical process controls
