 The Product Design team at Cruise is a passionate multidisciplinary group of designers, researchers, and 3D artists driving the future of autonomous urban mobility. Their unique challenge is to introduce emerging AV technology to people’s daily lives with the promise of saving lives, money, and time. With the support of General Motors, the team creates a holistic end-to-end experience of our autonomous ride-sharing platform—from the tools that train the AVs to the vehicle interiors of tomorrow. They seek to continue building a team of individuals as inclusive as the future we're creating, thoughtfully crafting everything from hardware and software to 3D and sound.

The Research & Insights team focuses on experiences that serve Cruise’s target customer as well as internal teams at Cruise. We work closely with designers and other cross-functional teams to provide insights that will lay the foundation for an AV ride-sharing experience. As a part of this team, you will have a critical role in shaping the Cruise experience and the impact it will have on the transportation and automotive industries that have shaped our way of living.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Collect and analyze user behavior data through a variety of channels, such as user testing, semi-formal interviews, observation, surveys, usability testing, and log analysis
  • Study and analyze the user experience through a wide variety of qualitative and quantitative methods
  • Collaborate with the design team to identify and prioritize research opportunities
  • Prepare, execute, analyze, and report on user testing studies
  • Track and regularly report metrics and feedback from internal studies

What you must have:

  • B.S. or B.A. in Human Factors, HCI, Psychology, Computer Science, or Social Sciences, Anthropology, or equivalent
  • 2+ years conducting qualitative and quantitative primary research in a user experience research role
  • You are able to select appropriate qualitative or quantitative approach to a research problem and write a tactical research plan for 1:1 interviews, task analysis, and surveys
  • You are able to prioritize multiple assignments, stay organized, and you enjoy sweating the details
  • You have demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills
  • You are comfortable working within a self-directed culture and navigating ambiguity
  • You are open to critique from other disciplines and are curious to learn from a spectrum of perspectives

Bonus Points!

  • M.A./M.S/ PhD in a related field
  • Experience running 1:1 UX testing on real-world experiences (vs. testing app flows or conducting remote interviews)
  • Experience with Qualtrics, Usertesting.com, Survey Monkey, DScout
  • Fluency in quantitative research methods
