The Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) will build a comprehensive Cruise-wide DEIB strategy, and drive the development, management, and implementation of that strategy and associated programs. The role sits on the HR leadership team and reports to the Chief People Officer.

This role will serve as the subject matter expert for DEIB at Cruise and will be responsible for and influence all aspects of the development, integration and implementation of DEIB initiatives. Initiatives span the employee lifecycle including recruitment, leadership development, employee engagement and retention. In addition, exposure to Cruise’s Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and partnership with all levels of the organization is a foundational part of the role.

The ideal candidate is a “practical disruptor” - someone who can challenge the status quo while able to form relationships with people from all levels and backgrounds. They will have a proven track record, have seen great at scale, and of course, a passion in driving programs that support Cruise's workforce diversity, inclusiveness, and retention opportunities.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Drive the development and implementation of Cruise-wide DEIB strategies in the areas of recruitment, leadership development, employee engagement and retention, partnering with respective People teams to do so
  • Develop and track metrics for measuring the effectiveness of DEIB initiatives partnering with our People Analytics and Insights team
  • Analyze talent demographics while monitoring external and internal data trends and adjust DEIB strategies accordingly
  • Coach SLT and other senior level leaders in a variety of subject areas related to DEIB
  • Serve as the voice of DEIB for Cruise, both internally and externally
  • Partner with our Communications team to create a strategy to keep Cruisers informed of internal and external DEIB initiatives, events and progress
  • Ensure Cruise Community Groups (CCGs) are integrated and active in our overall DEIB strategy
  • Identify, build, and sustain community partnerships to support DEIB initiatives and business strategies
  • Directly manage the DEIB Diversity Lead with the ability to lead and grow a team

What you must have:

  • Bachelor's Degree and 12+ years experience in human resources, including working in or partnering closely with DEIB
  • Strong technical knowledge and skill in the area of DEIB, especially around industry, cultural, and political trends
  • Proven track record coaching senior level leaders on DEIB topics
  • Proven, progressive experience and demonstrated effectiveness leading DEIB related initiatives and programs, particularly in global, engineering-focused organizations
  • Demonstrated ability to build solid relationships and engage effectively with all levels of the organization
  • Analytical skills and ability to translate metrics, research, and trends into strategy with a knack for telling the story with data
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with experience in facilitation/ presentation
  • Hands-on ability and desire to create substance from scratch
