The Dispatch team is looking for senior software engineers to lead our development of scalable dispatching services for our commercial ride-hailing and delivery businesses. We are at a turning point in our business where we are close to launching a public product and we need to build scalable, world-class dispatching services to support multiple products including ride-hail, delivery, research and development, and more. It is quite an exciting time to create new solutions to tackle new challenges of a company coming out of research and development mode and moving into providing a real tangible product for the public.

What you’ll be doing:

  • We work on two sides of dispatch; the first matches users with vehicles to serve their needs, and the other aims to optimize vehicle utilization by directing them to various parts of the city to perform jobs such as collecting data, validating data, and serving anticipated demand. Some of the interesting projects include development of very accurate ETA models, efficient matching of rides/deliveries to the AV, automated managing of the fleet to send the AV to the hotspots or wherever the demand is higher to pick up the passengers.
  • Take ownership of quarterly dispatch projects, from design to implementation.
  • Own the execution of your projects, including sprint-level planning, delegating tasks to peers, and collaborating with external stakeholders and dependencies.
  • Create and maintain design documents, and conduct design reviews for your proposals.
  • Test and validate your code via unit, integration, end-to-end, and occasionally road tests with self-driving vehicles!
  • Monitor the health and performance of your services / features  collecting relevant metrics and setting up appropriate alerts (tools are already available)
  • Review code change requests of peers, and produce well-tested, descriptive code change requests for your code

What you must have:

  • You are humble, collaborative, and believe self-driving technology will save the world
  • You have 3+ years of production-level experience building full stack applications
  • You have built scalable backend APIs using Node.js, Go, or similar languages
  • You have worked with relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL) and caching services (e.g. Redis)
  • You have written comprehensive tests and validated of software (e.g. unit and integration testing)
  • You produce readable and developer friendly software, and love to advocate for best practices

Bonus points!

  • Experience working with Docker and Kubernetes
  • Experience with TypeScript, Node.js, React.js, GraphQL
  • Experience with building gRPC API
