We’re looking for an experienced Senior Technical Program Manager (TPM) to coordinate and help drive development with the systems engineering, functional safety, operational safety, and software safety teams. Each of these teams are part of the Product Safety organization which is responsible for the overall safety of the Cruise autonomous transportation service. As Senior TPM, you will be responsible for managing technical projects, scheduling milestones, and defining acceptance criteria to ensure successful on-time delivery. TPMs are responsible for the “when” and the “how” of the program, and hold their teams accountable to deliver on engineering and operations projects to achieve business objectives. In this role, you’ll have the chance to work at the intersection of hardware, software, AV technology, operations, and product, interface with a variety of stakeholders through cross-functional initiatives, and help set the standards for product safety. What you’ll be doing:

Planning:

  • Develop project roadmaps and delivery plans that align with internal customer needs and major company milestones
  • Work with Product Safety team leads to drive project prioritization, define project success criteria, objectives, and dependencies
  • Align Product Safety project needs with broader company program deadlines and vice versa
  • Define project metrics & KPIs, set up mechanisms to track/report
  • Drive agile planning frameworks that allows flexibility while maximizing efficiency
  • Work with Product Safety team leads to ensure teams take on a balanced assignment of strategic initiatives, iterative improvements, and proactive engineering excellence investments
  • Support calculation of team capacity vs. estimated workload, and ensure the team can deliver on their commitments

Execution:

  • Manage day to day operational aspects of multiple projects
  • Build trusted relationships with team members and all relevant stakeholders
  • Refine processes & tools used by the team and its cross-functional contributors
  • Track and report on project progress, proactively drive corrective action as needed
  • Create and organize relevant project documentation
  • Conduct periodic retrospectives; continuously assess & improve processes & tools
  • Communicate across teams and outside Product Safety to effectively execute, filter, summarize reporting across the department to escalate issues and celebrate wins
  • Lead and improve cross-functional execution processes 
  • Establish confidence from partner teams to continuously minimize distractions or conflicts and push teams to maximize their output

What you must have:

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or another related engineering field
  • 5+ years of demonstrable, hands on cross functional project/program management experience with complex technology programs (full stack - hardware/firmware/application software)
  • 5+ years of industry experience in systems safety, systems engineering, or other related disciplines
  • Track record of building consensus and driving execution in cross-functional projects and driving teams toward the next level of rigor
  • Experience managing complex fast-paced initiatives spanning multiple teams and organizations, often with conflicting priorities and schedules
  • Knowledge of product development or systems engineering life cycle, requirements development and decomposition, and system validation 
  • Ability to understand complex technical systems
  • Experience with data visualization tools
  • Ability to operate under ambiguity and adapt to changing environment and requirements
  • Strong technical and nontechnical communication skills
  • Proficient with Agile methodologies and best practices; Knowledge of both Agile and waterfall project management techniques
  • Strong generalist, able to confidently bring order and organization to any team
  • Passionate about self-driving car technology and its impact on the world

Bonus Points!

  • Experience with robotics, autonomous vehicles, or complex electromechanical systems
  • Experience with safety critical development (FDA, FAA, Automotive, Aerospace)
  • Experience developing autonomous vehicles
  • Familiarity with ISO/PAS 21448, ISO-26262, or IEC-62304
  • Experience using Confluence, SmartSheet, JIRA, PLM, Jama
  • PMP, CSM and or CSPO certifications
