In this position, you’ll have the opportunity to work across all of Cruise in order to implement the Cruise Safety Management System (SMS).  If this sounds like an exciting opportunity to be a part of, let’s chat!

What you’ll be doing:

  • Act as a technical leader of the SMS implementation team and member of the product safety team.
  • Develop requirements and standards for the implementation of SMS.
  • Develop safety data collection/analysis/modeling tools for implementation in support of the SMS and work towards integrating those tools Cruise-wide.
  • Perform safety analysis independently and in working groups to support Safety Risk Management (SRM) in order to reduce systemic safety risk.
  • Build and manage relationships and trust with all relevant stakeholders across the organization.
  • Develop and implement safety training modules and promotional material in support of the SMS.

What you must have:

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Safety, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace, Aeronautics, Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or another related field
  • 8+ years of industry experience in safety either in AV’s or aviation
  • 5+ years of experience working within either an operator or regulatory authority’s (ex. FAA) SMS
  • Understanding of failure analysis methodologies such as Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and/or Systems Theoretic Process Analysis (STPA)
  • Proven track record of developing and/or implementing strategic programs.
  • Ability to understand complex technical systems
  • Experience with data visualization tools
  • Strong technical and non-technical communication skills
  • Critical thinking skills - decide what analyses to conduct, and interpret what the data reveals

Bonus Points!

  • Experience working in/with federal regulation, such as the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Department of Transportation (DOT) or National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
  • Experience implementing SMS and/or programs which support SMS.
  • Ability to identify and act on opportunities to improve processes and increase efficiency.
  • Experience with robotics, autonomous vehicles and/or vehicle development.
