The mission of the Infrastructure Decision Support(IDS) team is to provide input into company-wide infrastructure strategy, advise on key decisions affecting budget, provide capacity planning and performance consultative expertise to various Cruise-wide stakeholders in engineering and finance. As an early member of this team, you would be required to work with engineering teams to ensure optimal operation and growth of our infrastructure from both a cost and technology perspective.

What you'll be doing:

  • Develop self-service tools and processes to enable Cruise engineers to understand their capacity, efficiency, and costs
  • Design, develop, and lead necessary automation to help capacity plan for both near and long term outcomes
  • Put in place governance and a workflow to help manage additional capacity request approvals
  • Investigate new capacity requests to ensure the best use of resources and that instances are sized appropriately
  • Proactively identify infrastructure inefficiency opportunities, document proposal and be a key contributor in driving a positive outcome
  • Serve as an advisor to engineering and finance functions and executive team for one of the largest areas of expenditure
  • Work closely with TPMs on special efficiency projects and help deliver committed outcomes

What you must have:

  • 3+ years experience in capacity or performance engineering
  • 5+ years experience in a technical role
  • Intermediate knowledge of various public cloud providers
  • Experience with data modeling for public cloud
  • Experience with budgeting and capacity planning experience
  • Experience in scripting and building automation tools 
  • Self-disciplined and thrives in fast paced environments
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Attention to detail and a passion for correctness

  • Experience with Looker and JIRA
  • Expert application performance experience
