About the role:

As Head of Compensation, you’ll build a world-class compensation program using data and process to drive the success of Cruise’s compensation programs. Reporting to the VP, Total Rewards, you will drive the effectiveness of our compensation programs to attract and retain the best talent.

Day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Partner with Senior leaders across the company on compensation plans, year-end pay, and other off-cycle strategies to reward and retain our people
  • Build models and analyses leading into each compensation planning cycle to ensure we effectively benchmark our roles to market, and reward and retain our top talent
  • Select, implement and manage compensation planning tools to make planning cycles as efficient and automated as possible
  • Manipulate large data sets in complex ways; tease meaning from the numbers where no one else can
  • Build and maintain an efficient process for supporting recruiters with offers
  • Effectively communicate compensation topics from governance to execution to a wide variety of stakeholders from employees to executives; ensure that the employee experience with compensation includes a high level of customer service
  • Play a governance role in the creation, consultation, and review of compensation policies and processes
  • Work on projects such as deep dives, market data benchmarking, and improving performance rating assignment and compensation policies
  • Analyze compensation outcomes and draw conclusions and make recommendations for future consideration
  • Manage a strong compensation team to deliver client-oriented plans and solutions, while ensuring we maintain our fair and transparent pay practices across the company

You should apply for this role if you have the following qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree in Economics, Psychology, Statistics, Business Administration, or another field that uses quantitative analysis, or equivalent practical experience
  • 10+ years of compensation experience including building equity plans, executive, and broad-based compensation
  • Experience in high-growth Engineering companies
  • Experience in pre-IPO fast growing companies; hyper-growth experience a plus
  • Understanding of compensation tools, and ability to partner with team to implement such tools to provide leaders with the ability to make informed pay decisions for their teams
  • Experience in partnering with Senior leaders to develop and roll-out compensation plans; Ability to influence and drive partners to agreement and alignment
  • Strong track record of working collaboratively with other HR leaders, such as HRBPs, to ensure employees understand their compensation
  • Strong change management skills - ability and willingness to explain compensation philosophy and approach to everyone from an entry-level employee to the C-Suite Executive
  • Experience managing a compensation team; strong leader and developer of people
  • High fluency with Excel; Proficiency with SQL, R preferred
  • Experience in developing compensation strategy within a M&A context
  • Ability to prioritize and work well in an environment with competing demands
  • Impeccable attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
