About the role:

The Hardware Vehicle Test Engineer will lead on-vehicle testing of hardware and firmware changes to the autonomous vehicle fleet. This person will also lead tests to investigate and evaluate root causes for known hardware failure modes. This person will define test plans for a wide variety of components, work closely with technicians and operations to execute tests, and help analyze data to ensure requirements are met.

Day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Design and execute test plans on the current autonomous vehicle fleet for new hardware, new firmware, sensor characterization, and calibration.
  • Work closely with test requesters to determine test requirements, evaluate edge cases, and suss out potential failure modes.
  • Help define the on-vehicle test program as a whole; standardize and document test methods.
  • Identify and coordinate external on-vehicle testing where needed.
  • Work closely with other GM and Cruise testing teams to ensure AV content is validated from prototype to production stages and through simulation, bench, and on-vehicle.
  • Drive continuous improvement into all testing.
  • Troubleshoot basic autonomous vehicle and sensor issues and escalate to the right teams.

You should apply for this role if you have the following qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or another related field.
  • Basic understanding of test development, data analysis, and test automation.
  • Basic understanding of electro-mechanical systems, vehicles, and robotics/automation sensors.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills

Bonus Points:

  • Experience with sensor calibration highly.
  • Experience in the automotive industry.
  • Experience with ROS/Python/C/C++.
