About the role: 

Our Program Management Office (PMO) seeks an experienced, energetic Program Manager to coordinate and support major program efforts across the company, working closely with other Program Managers and executives to align goals, resources and schedules across all our efforts.

Day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Define, implement and drive portfolio management methods and reports to help Cruise manage its growing breadth of products and development efforts, for example:
    • Align schedules, priorities and resources across multiple parallel programs

    • Direct company-wide OKR/goal-setting, tracking and reporting

    • Evaluate and reconcile impacts of Plan-of-Record changes on other Programs

    • Optimize how we align plans (methods, terms, etc) between Cruise and our partners

  • Refine how we capture & communicate program plans and progress to executives and staff in a consistent and meaningful way
  • Define lightweight, thorough means for discovering, capturing and tracking dependencies between our most complex programs & deliverables
  • Conduct periodic retrospectives; work closely with Program Managers and other senior staff to continuously & proactively assess/improve our process & tools

You may be a good fit if you have:

  • 6+ years of industry experience in a fast-paced medium-/large-sized company, including direct participation in large, complex multi-disciplinary programs, including at least 2 years in a Program Management position
  • Ability to understand complex technical systems/products and contribute insightful pros/cons of various options or proposals from a product development/scheduling/delivery/support angle
  • Top-notch communications and presentation skills, from the team to executive level; proven ability to effectively inform and influence decision-makers at all levels
  • Proven ability to calmly and confidently bring clarity, order and organization to complex undertakings with diverse stakeholders
  • Motivated self-starter with ability to adapt quickly, operate under ambiguity, identify & act on opportunities to improve processes and increase efficiency

    Bonus Points:

  • Experience with Agile methods; familiarity with large-scale development models such as SAFe
  • Experience translating business needs into roadmaps, carefully-scoped requirements, engineering schedules & delivery plans
  • Experience with data analytics and metrics-informed decision-making
  • Experience with robotics, autonomous vehicles, complex electromechanical systems, real-time and/or high-availability systems
  • S/W and H/W development methodology knowledge; experience selecting and applying the best methodologies & tools to large-scale development environments (JIRA, Github, etc)
  • Prior exposure to full product lifecycles, from inception and development to delivery and support
  • BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, EE, Math, or another engineering field
