About the Cruise Marketing Organization:

Cruise is a new to the world brand that is creating a world changing category of autonomous vehicle mobility for consumers. We’ve just hired our first Chief Marketing Officer who has built brands at Procter & Gamble, Google, and Intuit. We’re now building a marketing organization from the ground up that will help us launch the brand to everyone in San Francisco in the fall of 2019. From there, our goal is to build a world changing global brand that redefines mobility for the next generation. The right candidate will be one of the first members of our marketing organization and will have a chance to shape the definition of our brand and our working culture from day one.

About the role:

The Director of Marketing Analytics and Optimization will develop the tracking and learning platform that enables us to answer two fundamental questions:

  • Is our marketing and our customer engagement model working in market?
  • If not, what should we change in our approach?

Given that we’re a new company, the Director of Marketing Analytics and Optimization role will be focused on:

  • Strategically interpreting customer feedback to improve business performance: We need a strong leader who can interpret what our data means and make firm strategic recommendations on how we should change or adapt our go to market approach.
  • Being a builder and architect: We need to hire the team and build the marketing analytics technology stack.
  • Visualizing our Data: We need to enable the organization to see customer response to their marketing.
  • Strategically interpreting customer feedback to improve business performance: We need a strong leader who can interpret what our data means and make firm strategic recommendations on how we should change or adapt our go to market approach.
  • Codifying learning: Given we will scale our service city by city, we need to codify lessons learned, establish commercial best practices, and turn them into playbooks or frameworks that will improve our time to market effectiveness in future city launches.

This role will report to the Chief Marketing Officer.

Day-to-day responsibilities include:
  • Hiring and building the Analytics and Optimization team.
  • Architecting the ideal analytics technical platform in partnership with our product managers.
  • Screening and selecting the right technology partners.
  • Building the data visualization teamplates / presentations that will help us run our business.
  • Coaching the team to interpret what the data means and importantly what business actions should we take based on our learning.
  • Leading the development of playbooks  / best practices that codify our learning for future market launches.
  • Functional areas that will need to be developed include but are not limited to:
    • User Acquisition & User Frequency Analytics: Helps develop the tracking and measurement systems that let us see performance of our acquisition and trip driving efforts. Built in a way that allows our marketing and finance teams to understand “what” is happening and “why” it is happening. Systems are built to enable daily and weekly learning and optimization. Systems are built to enable self service and we drive a culture where everyone understands and knows the key drivers of our business performance.
    • Brand Health & Marketing Mix Effectiveness: Build systems to measure and track the effectiveness of our brand building efforts. Leader will know how to build and track systems that help us understand brand awareness, brand consideration, brand sentiment. This leader will also know how to run market mix modeling, ROI, LTV:CAC measurement to enable us to learn and develop the ideal marketing mix to develop a market.

  • 10+ years of deep marketing analytics, research, and marketing strategy experience.  
  • Proven track record of exceptional success and rapid learning and growth in past experiences.
  • Passion and a history that shows depth in building consumer facing, digital first, modern brands.
  • Strong understanding of analytics technology landscape.
  • Ability to build an analytics organization from the ground up.
  • Strong ability to interpret what data means and make firm strategic recommendations on marketing actions we should take to improve performance.
  • Strong analytical and financial acumen at a level that is equal to our finance and strategy team members.
  • Ability to lead cross functionally & inspire a technical Silicon Valley organization with brand inspired thinking.
  • Signals in past experiences that indicate you are a world class leader that people want to follow.
  • Curiosity, Learning Agility, Empathy, Strategic Thinking, Vision, and an ability to Communicate are key traits.
