What you'll be doing:
Crisis Text Line's software engineers develop the next-generation data platform that changes how millions of humans connect with volunteer crisis counselors, our clinical staff and the interaction with one another. Our platform needs to handle information at a massive scale and extend well beyond SMS as a channel. We're looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including information processing, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking and data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design, and mobile.
As an Engineering Manager II, you will lead a team of highly motivated software engineers designing and building the future platform for Crisis Text Line.

Responsibilities:
Function 1 - Cross-functional Product Development:
- Manage priorities, deadlines, and deliverables with solid communication cross-functionally with Product Managers (PMs), UX, and Engineering leads
- Contribute to all parts of the product lifecycle, from concept to prototyping to product release
- Collaborate directly with your peers in product management, program management, user experience design, and user experience research, along with software engineers, data scientists, and quality engineers
Function 2 - Team Leadership and Growth:
- Manage and grow a team to build and advance the future Crisis Text Line platform
- Be responsible for recruiting, hiring, and retaining talent to expand the team.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Java, C/C++, C#, Objective C, Python, JavaScript, or Go)
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in a technical leadership role overseeing projects
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in people management and/or supervision/team leadership role
- Experience advancing projects from research and development to a realized product
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Reliable High-Speed Internet Required: Must have a stable high-speed internet connection to support seamless remote collaboration, virtual meetings, online job tasks, etc.
The full salary range for this position, across all United States geographies, is ($126,000 - $178,00) per year. The upper portion of the salary range is typically reserved for existing employees who demonstrate strong performance over time. Starting salary will vary by location, qualifications, and prior experience; during the interview process, candidates will learn the starting salary range applicable for their location. We pay competitively in the tech-forward nonprofit space and offer a robust benefits package.
