JOB SUMMARY
Hands-on role responsible for developing robust products and manufacturing processes for the Cresco House of Brands. The portfolio development includes Cresco, Good News, High Supply and Remedi product lines. From proof of concept through commercial launch. The role will create safe, consistent, more bioavailable product formulations. This role will cross collaborate with other department functions to make recommendations on the development of products. This role will drive development timelines and support product launches. The position will manage a small technical team to validate efficacy, test product functionality and get new products on the shelf.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage projects, set objectives and report on performance/timelines to senior leadership
- Participate in cross-functional new product development teams, build and execute product development commercialization plans
- Lead testing, validation, acceptance and installation for new technologies/equipment
- Develop and conduct formulation studies including solubility, excipient compatibility, physical characterization, flavor trials, and proof of concept batches
- Ability to identify and formalize final product formulations in NPI’s based off of studies conducted, consumer studies conducted and x functional collaboration
- Develop liquid and dry water-soluble ingredient solutions for CPG products
- Industry and product research for product development and IP creation
- Asses, and investigate water soluble technologies and controlled release technologies to increase bioavailability of cannabinoids in various product formulations
- Develop in-process and finished product analytical testing methods & procedures
- Manage product development stability program entailing, real time and accelerated stability studies to drive formulation decisions and estimated shelf life
- Collaborate with Manufacturing, Food & Beverage, Engineering, Automation and Marketing to recommend and onboard new production introductions
- Troubleshoot product/process issues and lead investigations related to product quality issues
- Document development work completely and contemporaneously to support patent applications
- Conduct periodic product analysis and optimize as needed
- Lead multiple formulation/process/scale up development projects at various stages for inhalable, ingestible and topical formulations
- Review analytical data, draft GMP manufacturing batch records/protocols, and product development reports
- Works independently to design, execute, and analyze laboratory experimentation
- Works on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires evaluation of intangible variables, requiring regular use of ingenuity and creativity
- Must think critically and creatively and be able to work independently, determine appropriate resources for resolution of problems and have strong organizational and planning skills
REQUIREMENTS
- P.h.D. or Masters degree in Chemistry/Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmacy OR B.S. in relevant industry experience
- Knowledge of analytical instrumentation required: HPLC/UPLC, GCMS, Viscometer, particle size analyzer, colorimeter etc.
- Expertise in low solubility drug delivery technologies, including sustained release
- Familiarity and working knowledge of manufacturing processes and equipment set up, operation and troubleshooting for various pharmaceutical/nutraceutical dosage forms
- Strict observance and adherence to required and approved safety procedures
- Experience in operating in an unstructured environment and define novel research approaches to complex scientific or technical problem
- Demonstrates technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration with others and independent thought in suggesting experimental design and strategy
- Experience in working as an individual and as an effective team player
- Experience in effectively supervising others
- Experience in effectively mentoring other employees
- Experience working across a broad range of oral solid and non-sterile liquid manufacturing technologies
- Experience with low solubility technologies preferred
- Proficient in MS Office, Highly Proficient in MS Excel, MATLAB, MS Projects, Vizio
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills are required
- Cannabis industry experience a plus
- Must pass any and all required background checks
- Must be and remain compliant with all legal or company regulations for working in the cannabis industry
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
- Must be able to stand on feet for extended periods of time
