As a staff software engineer in the User Management Team, you get to work on a platform that is responsible for handling millions of members accessing their Credit Karma accounts, including marketing tech, registration, login, SMS 2FA, account recovery and innovative member support .  Our mission is to deliver Secure Engineering Solutions for on-boarding, engagement, and supporting our members.  Some of the core tenets of our new platform are reusability, flexibility, resilience, and OAuth principles. There is an enormous opportunity to build things at scale, move fast, and have a high impact across many different verticals, including Auto, Mortgage and Assets. 

What you’ll Do

  • Lead critical efforts including but not limited to build-out of new product features, design and development of reusable React and GraphQL components
  • Influence the features and direction of the product using metrics and data
  • Solve technical problems of the highest scope and complexity for the team. Serve as a technical leader, resource, and mentor for the other members of the Frontend Engineering team
  • Develop, maintain and advocate Frontend code quality standards and best practices. Teach and reinforce these principles through code review

Minimum Basic Requirement:

  • 8+ years experience in Scala, Java, and/or any functional language. We code primarily in Scala, so you’ll be excited to either ramp or continue with such
  • 7+ years of experience working on a multi-functional team and hands-on software 
  • 7+ years experience in microservices architecture, messaging patterns, and deployment models
  • 5+ years experience in API design and building robust and extendable client/server contracts.  (e.g. REST, GraphQL) 
  • Development experience leading engineers and projects

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven ability and interest in mentorship of junior engineers
  • Professional experience across entire software development process, from development environment, to CI & CD, to production deployment, product and application performance measurement
  • Approaches problems with a pragmatic, analysis driven approach - understands well trade-offs between perfection and time, with an eye towards iterative delivery of product features, and utilizes this capacity to plan and deliver on product requirements
  • Expert understanding of web application internals and scalability at any tier.
  • Proficiency in SQL, relational database schema design and ORM technologies & concepts.
  • Strong understanding of deployment strategies and production infrastructure needs
  • Experience in a modern web component frameworks (e.g. Angular, React, Ember) 
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities.
