eCommerce Engineering is responsible for Coupang core eCommerce services, fast-growing emerging business services Coupang constantly invest to wow our customers, like Coupang Eats, Coupang Fresh...etc., any other confidential business and new business going through incubation, as well as international eCommerce expansion efforts. Job Overview

In this role, you will be the main driving force behind the biggest tech organization in Coupang – eCommerce Engineering. Define, iterate and improve operation excellence in large organization.

  • Lead a small high-performing team of TPMs to drive Coupang’s complex technical/engineering initiatives/strategic projects and programs across the company that both directly and/or indirectly impacts millions of customers’ lives in a fast-paced consumer environment
  • End-to-end responsibility: from diagnostic and strategy development to execution and accountability for quarterly and annual goals
  • High exposure to various tech and business leaders depending on the focus project

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Engineering Leaders and fellow TPMs to conceptualize across cross-functional technical/engineering projects/initiatives with layers of dependencies, and plain their execution
  • Organize and align multiple stakeholders to drive timely execution
  • Have a solid understanding of system design/architecture to exercise technical judgement as necessary
  • Identify platform/systems needs and/or define process to improve efficiency and enable scalability; Use data to inform platform/systems needs and prioritize system requirements
  • Develop and implement new tools/process/mechanisms for efficient and successful delivery and management of technical/engineering programs/projects/initiatives to support the strategic direction of the organization and help achieve the overall business goal; Act as an internal accelerator across multiple organization to help implementation of new program/project tools and processes
  • Create and manage long-term goals of the organization
  • Ensure goals are met in areas including customer satisfaction, safety, quality, and team member performance
  • Prioritize technical/engineering programs and activities in accordance with the mission and goals of the organization
  • Set accountability through communication of progress transparency and visibility on the next set of actions and milestones
  • Work with internal stakeholders (tech, finance, legal, marketing teams) to drive scalable solutions and resolutions
  • Define metrics to measure the efficacy of internal resources and lead teams to improve metrics by making modification to current processes; Identify opportunities for optimization and evolve the existing processes, practices and frameworks that help promote collaboration, transparency, and ways of working
  • Manage resource allocation and risks to optimize delivery

 

Qualifications

  • Fluent written and spoken English 
  • BS degree in Computer Science/Engineering or any related field
  • Strong technical aptitude and ability to understand technical challenges and risks (must)
  • Strong technical understanding of complex, large-scale/massive distributed-systems OR Micro-services architecture, especially around topics of scalable resilience, and use that technical knowledge to drive technical discussions and provide technical insights into technical programs/projects centered around technical platforms (must)
  • Background in fundamental engineering concepts including SDLC, testing methodologies, API monitoring metrics and SLAs
  • 10+ years of experience in driving, delivering and executing end-to-end large-scale, complex technical programs/projects in a fast-paced consumer (tier-0 consumer-facing services)
  • 3+ years of experience as a TPM or engineering manager managing a small group of TPMs in a fast-paced engineering organization
  • Experience in solving complex, challenging and ambiguous technical/engineering problems, ability to dive deep into the issue, identify root causes and come up with realistic solutions that directly address the core issue; Strong problem-solve who adapts his/her approach and experience to evolving environments hence setting high bar for the team
  • Experience synthesizing information quickly, distilling key takeaways, and presenting insights to senior leadership
  • Experience working with large sets of structured and unstructured data and synthesizing into business insights
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner, bringing the audience along; Strong interpersonal skills - must be able to run meetings and work streams with senior leadership across the company
  • High standards and a bias toward action
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines, prioritize workload and achieve effective results in fast-paced and dynamic environment; effective multi-tasking skills are vital
  • Leadership experience
  • Experience working with global teams distributed across multiple time zones, countries and cultures; Demonstrate ability to work across multiple teams and cross-organization stakeholder management
