THE OPPORTUNITY

 

Our data is a critical business asset – how we handle and manage that data must be compliant with laws/regulations and preserve its confidentiality, availability and integrity.  This role forms part of Coupang’s Privacy and Data Governance team and will support the Chief Information Security & Privacy Officer in leading and managing all organization-wide data governance activities including implementing and ensuring adherence to enterprise data governance frameworks and driving privacy and data protection compliance across the organization.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & OBJECTIVES

 

  • Develop and rollout an enterprise wide data governance framework, with a focus on data quality and the protection of sensitive data through creation of (and modifications to) the organization’s policies and procedures, governance metrics and data architecture
  • Define roles and responsibilities related to data governance and ensure clear accountability for the enterprises’ information assets
  • Develop and maintain an inventory of the organization’s information/data maps and flows including systems, databases, access rights, and respective owners
  • Lead the development of data quality standards and data protection standards for adoption across the enterprise
  • Have a deep understanding of Korean regional laws and regulations governing data protection, credit information and privacy including the Personal Information Protection Act, the Act on Promotion of Information and Communication Network Utilization and Information Protection, and the Use and Protection of Credit Information Act
  • Drive the design, development and implementation of policies, procedures and processes for privacy and data protection compliance across the organization
  • Maximize flow and work relentlessly with business and project teams to build privacy and data protection compliance requirements into their business processes and system design
  • Drive a state of compliance by ensuring the organization maintains appropriate privacy-related consents, notices, and authorizations
  • Think internationally – by staying abreast of regional and global trends and best practices in data governance, privacy and data protection
  • Develop and implement processes to enable compliant cross-border data transfers;
  • Engage directly with key regulators (e.g., KCC and KISA), Prosecutor’s Office, and other key stakeholders regarding privacy and data protection related queries and issues
  • Establish and administer processes for receiving, documenting, tracking and responding to complaints (including customer complaints), investigations or other incidents involving privacy and data protection
  • Be the focal point for privacy and data protection and governance across the organization

 

BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE

 

  • Experience in one of the Banking, Financial Services, Fintech or Technology industries; Ecommerce and/or Online Retail industry experience preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of experience working within an organization advising on data governance, data protection, and privacy
  • Strong experience in and familiarity with engaging directly with Korean regulators (including KCC) and the Prosecutor’s Office
  • Exceptional ability to consistently deliver creative, thoughtful and business-orientated results that appropriately balance growth and risk in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment
  • Ability to adapt easily to rapid and diverse business changes
  • Strong and effective communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Fluent in Korean or English, bilingual is preferred
  • Willingness to reside in Korea (if currently located outside of Korea)
  • Bachelor in a related field required; Masters preferred
