Position Overview:

The SEC Financial Reporting Analyst supports the accounting and SEC financial reporting functions for Cottonwood Communities Inc. and related entities. The primary purpose of this position is to assist in the corporate financial statement close process, prepare disclosures for quarterly and annual reports and other SEC filings, assist with internal and external audit activities, maintain supporting schedules and financial data, and be an integral member of the corporate accounting team, with a focus of improving the overall accounting and financial reporting functions across the organization in accordance with established accounting policies and procedures.

The incumbent will be able to conduct themselves in a professional and friendly manner and be a proactive, self-starter who possesses exceptional multi-tasking and communication skills, both oral and written as well as the ability to work under minimal supervision with a demonstrated history of taking initiative. The ability to exercise good judgment, prioritize tasks to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment, exhibit a high degree of flexibility, and to build strong relationships with team members and other departments to accomplish tasks and achieve goals.

Work Location: Remote Position - Salt Lake City, Utah (Corporate Headquarters)

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Participate in Corporate financial statement close process.
  • Prepare purchase price allocations for acquired real estate.
  • Assist with the preparation of quarterly and annual reports on public filings (10-Q, 10-K, and other SEC filings) and respond to requests from internal and external auditors.
  • Maintain chart of accounts and consolidation roll up in Yardi.
  • Coordinate XBRL tagging and maintenance of data within SEC reporting software.
  • Assist in the documentation and updating of internal control processes which adhere to SEC certification requirements.
  • Maintain debt management tracking and update debt management software.

Additional Skills & Competencies:

  • Ability to read, understand and analyze complex financial statements.
  • Complete understanding of and ability to apply applicable GAAP.
  • Ability to innovate and to create new processes to add value to the organization.
  • Proficiency in the MS Office suite, especially Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Familiarity with Yardi not required, but a plus.
  • Flexibility and ability to work under tight deadlines.
  • Experienced in problem solving, and able to follow a methodical implementation process.
  • Ability to exercise poise, tactfulness, diplomacy, and good interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations.
  • Must be a self-starter.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Business.
  • Public accounting experience preferred.
  • Real Estate experience preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Constant need for visual acuity in small detail, beyond arm’s reach, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Constant need for talking and hearing to communicate with associates, investors, and clients.
  • Constant need to simultaneously use hand, wrist, and fingers to operate standard office equipment.
  • Frequent need for sitting, stooping, kneeling, and/or crouching to access files and/or standard office equipment.
