About the Role:

 

As the Director of Public Relations, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and maintaining the public image and reputation of the organization. Your responsibilities will include leading all PR efforts, crafting and implementing strategic communication plans to convey the organization’s messages and managing our agency relationships. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication, interpersonal, and organization skills, along with previous experience in the automotive sector. 

 

This role will require a qualified individual to work onsite 3 days per week out of our New York City office. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Formulate comprehensive communication strategies aligned with the organization's goals, objectives, and values.
  • Identify key messages and target audiences to tailor communication efforts effectively.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, public opinion, and media landscape to inform communication strategies.
  • Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with media outlets, journalists, bloggers, and influencers.
  • Pitch stories, press releases, and other materials to secure media coverage and generate positive publicity.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for media inquiries and interview requests.
  • Write, edit, and distribute press releases, articles, speeches, blog posts, and other written materials.
  • Develop compelling and engaging content for various communication channels, including social media, websites, and newsletters.
  • Ensure all content adheres to brand guidelines and maintains a consistent tone and messaging.
  • Develop crisis communication plans and protocols to effectively manage and mitigate negative publicity or reputation threats.
  • Act as a spokesperson during a crisis, providing timely and accurate information to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Monitor media coverage and social media conversations to identify potential issues and respond proactively.
  • Facilitate internal communication initiatives to keep employees informed, engaged, and aligned with organizational goals.
  • Coordinate internal events, meetings, and presentations to promote transparency and open communication.
  • Provide guidance and support to departmental managers on communication matters.
  • Identify and engage with key stakeholders, including customers, partners, investors, and community members.
  • Develop communication strategies to foster positive relationships and enhance the organization's reputation.
  • Attend industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities to represent the organization and build connections.
  • This position does require occasional travel (0-25%)

Job Requirements:

  • 7+ years of experience in public relations, corporate communications, or related field
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field required (Master's degree preferred)
  • Must have experience and a background working within the automotive industry
  • Ability to craft and deliver persuasive pitches to media outlets, journalists, bloggers, and influencers
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Proven track record of securing media coverage and managing successful PR campaigns
  • Must possess existing relationships with media professionals or influencers in relevant industries
  • Demonstrated ability to articulate completing business cases to promote and sell initiatives or ideas effectively 
  • Ability to think strategically, problem-solve, and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to think analytically and proficiently report key performance indicators (KPIs) to senior leadership
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Newswire, and familiarity with social media platforms
  • Demonstrated drive and tenacity in pursuing objectives and achieving results

  • Experience transitioning from an agency background to in-house
  • Experience working in a startup environment

Compensation Package:
