Confidential is a digital media organization preparing to launch in the near future. We’re a newsroom of top-flight reporters, data experts, visual journalists and editors working in collaboration to deliver an interconnected news experience. We plan to create a new, interconnected style of journalism that helps engaged and influential audiences better understand the complex stories that matter most.  

We are hiring journalists with strong reporting, writing and analytical skills who are excited by the challenge of taking a new approach to their work and continually testing new formats. We want to lay out the who, what, when, etc., and explain the multiple frames through which to understand the bigger picture. We want to bring clarity to the stories that matter. We consider applicants with other professional backgrounds and life experience who can show us they have the expertise, thoughtfulness and writing skills to do the work. 

Confidential is hiring reporters excited to work collaboratively with colleagues to cover the biggest stories and challenges of the day. We’ve identified key areas of focus, including science and technology, climate and environment, economics, policy and politics, geopolitics, health and global security. Ideal candidates can demonstrate expertise in the area they pitch, in the form of published clips or equivalent work in academic or related fields.  

Responsibilities:   

  • Be a contributing member of a highly collaborative newsroom 
  • Pitch, lead and execute nuanced stories for a largely domestic audience of highly engaged, informed readers   
  • Brainstorm, research, focus, report and deliver unique cross-beat projects with newsroom colleagues 
  • Experiment with story formats and approaches
