What is the Role?

Coney Island Prep is looking for a dedicated, diligent Network Operations Assistant to join us for the 2021-22 school year! As the Network Operations Assistant, you will be a part of the network office, or WHALE team. What is the WHALE team, you ask? WHALE is an acronym for our home office team and it stands for “We Help and Lift Everyone.” The Network Operations Assistant will have significant exposure and opportunity to support Coney Island Prep across schools while providing leverage to the executive team. Core responsibilities include maintaining our home office’s operations, supporting our financial management and budgeting systems, and executing special projects in collaboration with the CEO so that we can better serve our school communities. The Network Operations Assistant will be hired by and report to the Chief Executive Officer.

What You’ll Be Asked To Do

Operational Support (30%)

  • Diligently oversee and maintain the network office’s physical condition including all meeting and shared spaces
  • Create a welcome office environment for staff and families by providing top notch customer service that reflects CIP’s commitments to inclusion, urgency, and levity
  • Ensure that all spaces are neat, organized, beautiful and optimized for their designated use with a vision that supports CIP’s commitment to supporting and growing leaders
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for staff technology support including reservations, maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Support other network leaders as an events manager for trainings and professional development series that take place at the network office
  • Maintain all shared-space technology (projectors, copiers, etc.) to catalyze staff collaboration
  • Manage shared space reservation and calendars
  • Create and maintain staff-friendly systems for photocopy and production

Network Office Financial Management (40%)

  • Support members of the Executive team with strategic purchasing, finance reconciliation, and supply needs
  • Create and oversee detailed inventory and budgeting systems to ensure the network office has the materials necessary and supplies to support a high-functioning team
  • Oversee approval process, staff communication and documentation associated with purchasing
  • Liaise with the Finance team on resolving accounting flows for the network team

Special Projects (30%)

  • Support the CEO in managing long term deliverables and meeting agendas for the leadership team
  • Collaborate with CEO to produce materials for major presentations and Board reports
  • Prepare materials and meeting minutes for monthly Board of Trustee meetings
  • Support the senior leadership team in tracking high priority initiatives and outcomes across school on senior-level dashboards
  • Research partners and pricing for special network projects
  • Maximize resources by negotiating and diligently researching pricing

What You’ll Need

  • Maintain professionalism through excellent organizational skills, timeliness, regular communication, and meeting deadlines
  • Willingness to take on physical and sometimes menial tasks necessary for the greater good
  • Interpersonal skills to foster excellent relationships with families, scholars and staff across lines of sameness and difference
  • Passionate dedication to Coney Island Prep’s mission, with a steadfast belief that all students deserve preparation for the college and career of their choice
  • Detail and solutions-oriented mindset
  • An entrepreneurial spirit, embracing the opportunity for creativity and hard work
  • Discretion and confidentiality with sensitive information
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Strong experience with Excel
  • Spanish, Cantonese, or Russian proficiency a plus

Who Are We?

Coney Island Prep is a college preparatory public charter school in Brooklyn, New York. Merging growth, performance and commitment, the Coney Island Prep community takes its responsibility to prepare students for the college and career of their choice very seriously, but not ourselves. We balance our sense of ownership and responsibility with humility and levity and support each other every step of the way. Coney Island Prep currently serves over 1,000 scholars across its four schools, including:

  • 200 scholars in kindergarten – second grade at the lower elementary school
  • 220 scholars in third – fifth grade at the upper elementary school
  • 280 scholars in sixth – eighth grades at the middle school
  • 340 scholars in ninth-twelfth grade at the high school

In addition to sharing our blueprint in approaching virtual and distanced learning, we have allocated resources for familial support, distributed hundreds of devices to sustain techquity amongst students, and provided over 100,000 meals throughout the South Brooklyn neighborhood to date.

As we have navigated our return to school and broader COVID-19 recovery efforts, it is clearer than ever before that having all staff members fully vaccinated is an exceedingly important aspect of protecting the health and safety of our school community. We know that educators city-wide will continue to lead the movement for safe and healthy school communities, and we are excited to be a part of that! To adhere to New York City’s mandate, all Coney Island Prep staff members will be required to be fully vaccinated. If you are not yet vaccinated and looking to do so, we will be more than happy to provide resources to assist in that process.

Benefits and Compensation

Employees at Coney Island Prep are provided with a generous salary and an annual retention bonus after their first year. Our salaries are highly competitive, set through a lens of equity, and based on an individual’s skills and experiences relevant to the role. The starting salary for this role is $60,000 based on experience.


As a regular full time employee of Coney Island Prep, you will be eligible for benefits that include medical, dental, vision, and life insurance as well as a 403(b) retirement benefit package with match and Paid Family Leave.
